*Check planer table before turning it on, a tool might have slipped under the cutter head

*Blades must be sharp. Dull blades will vibrate the stock and may cause a kickback.

*Feed the work so that the knives will cut “with the grain”. Use only stock that is free of knots and splits. Do not plane end grain
*Use a push block when planing a flat surface. Never apply pressure directly over the knives with your hand.
*Do not plane the maximum amount off of stock when planing. Two passes through the planer can be better than one.
*When planning thin pieces of wood, be sure to stand to one side in case the wood breaks and kicks back.

The new spiral cutterhead uses 15mmx15mmx2.5mm-R150 carbide inserts. We have a set of 10 spare.

The inserts can be rotated 3 times before being replaced. The recommended torque range is 5.4-5.9 Nm (48-52 pound inch).

A sound absorber was added on top of the machine to keep the noise level acceptable. A combination of 100mm fixed pipes and flexible hoses with doors are used to direct the suction to the desired machine.

To use the vacuum, start the machine by turning the red knob and open the desired door connecting to the machine you are using. Check before starting it that all the other doors are closed in order to get the most flow. In a near future, the vacuum will turn ON and OFF automatically when opening/closing the doors.

The vacuum should be used at anytime with the following machines:

*Table saw, table router and planer with the flexible hose. Use as well to clean around the miter saw and the lathe.
*Band saw (one dedicated flexible hose)
*Miter saw (two dedicated pipes on the enclosure)
*Beltsander (one dedicated flexible hose)
*Lathe (one dedicated hose with large funnel - under construction)

It is not required to use the dust collection on the drill press, however it is useful when drilling large holes.

Regularly check for the level of dust in the bag, and properly replace the plastic bag if needed. See instructions below.

To empty the chip collector:

*Before changing the bag, turn off the machine and pull 4-5 time of the filter cleaning handle. The Filter cleaning handle is the black handle on the side of the machine on the lathe side. See the upper picture to the right.
*Pull the large handle upwards to lower the chip collector to the floor.
*Lift out the full bag and throw it in the garbage room.
*Take a new 200l bag from the shelf above the wood lathe.
*Do not cover the hole in the corner when replacing the bag. See the lower picture to the right.
*Roll in the collector and pull the handle down to lift it up and connect it. Make sure it is well aligned with the machine.

A sound absorber was added on top of the machine to keep the noise level acceptable. A combination of 100mm fixed pipes and flexible hoses with doors are used to direct the suction to the desired machine.

To use the vacuum, start the machine by turning the red knob and open the desired door connecting to the machine you are using. Check before starting it that all the other doors are closed in order to get the most flow. In a near futur, the vacuum will turn ON and OFF automatically when opening/closing the doors.

The vacuum should be used at anytime with the following machines:

*Table saw, table router and planer with the flexible hose. Use as well to clean around the miter saw and the lathe.
*Band saw (one dedicated flexible hose)
*Miter saw (two dedicated pipes)
*Beltsander (one dedicated flexible hose)

It is not required to use the dust collection on the drill press, however it is useful when drilling large holes.

Near the belt sander, a pipe goes all the way to the floor and make the floor cleaning really easy. 

Regularly check for the level of dust in the bag, and properly replace the plastic bag if needed. See instructions below.

This page list the different jigs that were built for the woodshop. You will find explanation on how to use them properly.

Making these jigs required a considerable amount of time and some money. They were built with extreme care and precision. Please respect that and take care of them.

Always ensure that the blade is perfectly vertical before using any of these jigs.
==Crosscut sled==
A sled is a movable contraption that slides in the table saw's gauge slots. The workpiece then rests against a wooden fence at the front of the sled, a setup that keeps the work from slipping and ensures a clean, perfectly square cut every time.
===Basic crosscuts and safety===
With the saw off, set the blade height to cut no higher than 1/8 in. above the wood. Pull the sled back, lay your workpiece against the fence and line up the blade with your cutting mark. Turn the saw on, hold the wood against the fence and slowly push the workpiece through the saw. After the cut is completed, slightly separate the two halves from the blade and shut off the saw. ''Let the blade coast to a complete stop before you remove the wood.''

Ensure that the blade is at 90° with the table before using the sled.
===Angle cuts===
To perform any angle cut from 89° to 45°, you need to move the sled to the left side of the blade. It is recommended to use a sacrificial fence to avoid tear out.

===Repetitive cuts===
Woodworking projects often requires multiple identical pieces, measuring and cutting each parts separately will be inaccurate.

Instead use a stop block (fixed to the fence with a clamp), or use the dedicated stop mechanism (under construction). Push each board against the block, make a pass through the wood, then set it aside and grab the next piece of stock.

For some longer parts, you may use the table saw fence as a reference. Always use a piece of wood between that part that you cut and the fence. Set your part against the piece of wood on the fence, secure your part firmly, remove the small piece of wood and do the cut. Never perform a cut using a non-moving stop block, as you risk squeezing the piece and have it launched into your face.

==Miter Sled Attachment==
==Thin Strip jig==
The thin strip jig allow you to cut repetitive thin strips of wood, without having the reposition the fence ever time, or without the risk of cutting small pieces between the blade and the fence (and having trouble holding the cut piece.

It is mandatory to perfectly square the blade and switch to the zero-clearance insert before using this jig.
==Spline jig==
Splines are thin pieces of wood that are inserted into a cut that is perpendicular to a miter joint in order to add additional support. Whether you’re making jewelry boxes, picture frames, or basically anything with miter joints, you can reinforce those corners with splines.

This jig sits on top of a sled and has a large cradle with an adjustable fence. The fence can easily move side to side to give you a square clamping surface while you cut.

==Fingers box joint jig==
Box joints, also called finger joints, are a neat joinery technique that adds a lot of character to your project. A typical glued 45-degree miter joint lacks in strength because it’s end-grain to end-grain. With that in mind, a benefit of using box joints is the stability and rigidness that it offers since it’s essentially a combination of glued face-grain to face-grain and edge-grain to end-grain surfaces.

With this jig, all you need is an indexing key that is the same width as your blade. A large variety of templates can be created. The current one is 6*6mm.

Kevin also has little time to spend on his project, thus neglect the time he should invest in cleaning after himself.

Today, Kevin spent a lot of time sanding a lot of wood. It took him all day and a lot of sanding discs. But he now has a nice a smooth piece of wood. Unfortunately Kevin didn't spend his last 2 minutes cleaning and putting back the orbital sander in his box.

Don't be like Kevin and spend 2 minutes vacuuming the tool. It's also worth opening the filter box to empty it.

Also Kevin uses 115mm discs on this 125mm pad and press down like crazy. It just destroys the sides of the pads and discs won't stick.

Today, Kevin used the jointer/planer - the machine that creates the most wood chips - and quickly filled up the vacuum bag. And Kevin didn't check the level in the bag even though there's a transparent window with a thin red line and the text "MAX". As a result it filled up the space between the bag and the filter (about 25 cm) and it took two members about 1 hour to clean.

Also Kevin planed some wet would. Humidity can clog up the filter.

Today, Kevin had some lightweight limestone bricks to cut. Instead of using an appropriate cutting disc on an angle grinder, he thought it would be easier to use the table saw. Kevin should have asked first. As a result, Kevin quickly wore the blade and literately covered the table saw gears and the room with a fine abrasive white dust.

Also Kevin uses 115mm discs on this 125mm pad and press down like crazy. It just destroys the sides of the pads and discs won't stick.

Today, Kevin used the jointer/planer - the machine that creates the most wood chips - and quickly filled up the vacuum bag. And Kevin didn't check the level in the bag even though there's a transparent window with a thin red line and the text "MAX". As a result it filled up the space between the bag and the filter (about 25 cm) and it took two members about 1 hour to clean.

Also Kevin planed some wet would. Humidity can clog up the filter.

Kevin should have asked first. As a result, Kevin quickly wore the blade and literately covered the table saw gears and the room with a fine abrasive white dust.
