1.12 Finishing up
Module 1 · Part 3: Your print, step by step · Lesson 12 of 14 · about 2 min
When you come back for your print, the room's standard is simple:
✅ Hard rule. When you collect your print, leave the printer empty for the next person: your plate back in the rack, no spool in the AMS, no nametag, and nothing left inside.
An X2D left empty: door open, nothing on the bed, the AMS 2 Pro open with no spools, and no nametag
Let the plate and print cool, then lift your plate, print and all, out of the printer.
Vacuum or sweep loose filament and bits out of the bottom of the printer. The mini-vacuum on the pegboard is there for this. It also has a blower at the rear end, for blowing dirt out of hard-to-reach corners.
Take your spool out of the AMS, secure the loose end in one of the holes in the spool's rim so it can't unwind and tangle, and take it with you. Free filament goes back to the free section of the filament shelf. After a normal finish it lifts straight out. After a cancelled job or an error, run Unload first.
Take your nametag off the printer, and hang it on the nametag rack on the right wall.
Flex your plate to pop the print off. Use a plastic-bladed tool only if you have to. If it won't come off, ask in Slack rather than taking over the printer again. Remove the purge line from the build plate too.
Take your finished print with you, and throw away failed prints. The room is not storage for either.
Put your plate back in the rack. You don't need to wash it: whoever prints on it next washes it first.
Purge waste: the collection boxes (the grey crates under the X2D rack, and the box inside each H2S stand) hold many litres and are usually emptied on community work days. If your job made a lot of purge waste, please empty the box yourself. Purge waste goes in ordinary rubbish. It is a mix of materials, so it cannot be recycled.
Rubbish: if the ordinary rubbish bin is full, take it out. That is a rule for the whole makerspace, and it applies here too.
The two steps easiest to forget. Top: the mini-vacuum clearing the bottom of a printer. Bottom: the front edge of a build plate with the purge line still on it, a thin white strip of plastic
If someone has already moved your print to the build-plate rack, collect your plate and nametag there and your spool from the "This week" shelf, then flex the print off and put the plate back in the rack.
