Sewing machines — Open questions
Questions for the Textile room maintainers. These concern equipment details and evidence gaps; users should follow the operating guidance rather than experiment to resolve them. Researched operating guidance is on each machine page. Slack updates were reviewed on 13 October 2026; dated reports narrow several questions but do not replace checks of the actual installed equipment.
Shared equipment and maintenance details
Confirmed use policy: All sewing machines are free to use, first come, first served, and require no usage logging. Safety glasses are not required when operating sewing machines. The Brother PR-650 still requires an introduction before use.
Confirm whether any other machine requires an introduction, and document how users complete it.
Record machine-specific maintainers and fault-handling responsibility. The #textilrummet description lists Lisbeth Larsson and Matilda Cedervall as room contacts; its 4 April 2026 description update and channel were checked on 13 October 2026.
Record inventory labels, serial numbers, working condition, service history and locations of accessories/consumables.
Agree who plans and records professional servicing. A 30 December 2024 report relays the shop's annual-service recommendation for heavy room use; agree a service schedule and record work/return dates.
Singer 18-3
Photograph the machine, serial/model markings, installed drive, guards and controls.
Confirm installed needle system and any later conversions against the original 16 × 2 specification.
Record the supplied bobbins, thread stock, demonstrated usable leather thickness and thread/needle combinations.
Resolve conflicting historical handwheel wording in bobbin/thread-pickup instructions through an onsite demonstration; document normal operation and shuttle handling, oil points and stitch regulator.
Record whether a flat work plate is available.
Resolve the 26 March 2026 controller safety report: identify the currently fitted pedal, confirm whether it was replaced or assessed, and record the specialist's findings and safe service arrangements. Keep the report qualified until assessed; do not disturb the washers.
Singer 29K4
Confirm the model plate, serial number and current drive. The historical photograph shows a front-facing hand crank and treadle stand; the exact parts book specifies a side wheel.
Demonstrate and mark normal hand-crank rotation from the operator's position; the related 29-4 end-wheel wording cannot simply be transferred.
Obtain an exact 29K4 operator booklet if available. An exact 1922 parts book and a related 1923 29-4 operator guide are attached. Instructions for later 29K71/72/73 models describe different parts and must not be treated as an exact 29K4 guide.
Confirm the installed needle system and modern equivalents. Original K4 supply is 29 × 4; the related operator guide distinguishes 29 × 3 cloth and 29 × 4 leather needles.
Record compatible thread, bobbin 8604 stock, fitted shuttle and plate. Confirm whether any original wax-thread arrangement is still fitted.
Locate the threading wire (original part 8590) and demonstrate the upper path, bobbin winding, shuttle loading, stitch regulator, direction handles and presser pressure.
Record practical seam/layer limits, the exact drawer location for needles and bobbins, spare feet/plates and any flat-work table.
Confirm lubricant, oil points, schedule, maintainer and current parts suppliers; Indukta and ACG Nyström are historical leads.
Janome CoverPro 2000CPX
Confirm the model plate and record the serial number. The supplied photograph shows a Janome cover machine and EL × 705 label, but no model plate.
Record the matching foot controller and electrical rating from the actual machine. Do not use a regional manual's controller code without checking.
Inventory the fitted foot, separate work table, accessory box, needle threader, tweezers, screwdrivers, nets, spool caps and any guides or binders.
Locate approved EL × 705 80/12 and 90/14 needle stock. The reviewed manual and Janome compatibility page do not require CF; record any preferred needle variant stocked in the room.
Record suitable stocked thread, reusable scrap leaders and where supplies are kept.
Demonstrate the specific needle guide prongs, looper release and return, tension-disc seating, and removal procedure from printed p. 40.
Record practical material and seam-crossing limits and useful tested settings. No tested maximum thickness has been documented for this machine.
Record maintenance contact, cleaning schedule and service history. The operator book describes cleaning but no user-oiling routine.
Confirm the return from the 10 October 2026 service trip, record the work completed, and update the availability notice.
Janome Easy Jeans 1800
Add the current front photograph supplied 14 October 2026, documenting the Easy Jeans badge, mechanical controls and stitch-chart labels 1–18 plus BH. Model/rating plate, serial and the 1800 designation are not visible in this view.
Photograph the model plate and record the serial number and revision.
Locate and label original Janome J plastic bobbins and approved needle stock. Confirm the exact modern needle-system designation before adding a purchasing code to the page.
Inventory feet A, H, R, B and other accessories; confirm whether foot A has its black levelling button.
Confirm the matching foot controller, HIGH / LOW switch and electrical rating from the actual equipment.
Record practical material and bulky-seam limits, suitable denim needle/thread combinations and tested stitch samples.
Demonstrate the bobbin slots, take-up threading, thick-seam levelling button and buttonhole reset sequence.
Confirm whether the 2015 HDEJ1800 parts list matches this machine's model and revision before using its ordering numbers.
Record cleaning responsibility, maintenance contact and service history.
Locate an English operator booklet for this exact revision if one is available; the downloaded booklet is in Nordic languages, while the machine page provides English instructions.
Janome Decor Monogram 7200 / DM7200
Add the current front photograph supplied 14 October 2026, with clearly readable DM7200 marking and control panel. The transparent bobbin cover is visible resting on the base beside the open compartment.
Record the model plate, serial number and revision; photograph the machine's stitch chart and confirm which manual edition matches it.
Confirm the current working condition and maintenance contact.
Inventory the matching pedal, feet A/C/E/F/G/R/O, buttonhole stabilizer plate, extra spool pin, stitch chart, extension table and hard cover. Identify storage locations and any missing accessories.
Confirm which buttonhole styles the machine's chart provides; the retrieved operator book shows 12 types while current regional product specifications say 14.
Confirm a compatible twin-needle procedure, needle spacing, permitted patterns and width limits, separate threading paths, and compatibility with the threader and automatic cutter. The retrieved operator book gives no twin-needle procedure.
Confirm the usual foot-pressure, needle-stop and feed-balance settings, and how users should restore them after a project.
Confirm whether programmed combinations survive power-off on this machine and agree how users should clear another project's sequence.
Check automatic thread cutting and the Easy Set bobbin cutter; document any fault or workaround.
Confirm the maintainer's lubrication and servicing arrangements, and record the last service date.
Juki MO-654DE — two units
Record the serial numbers and identify both units clearly for maintenance reports; one usually carries white thread and the other black thread.
Confirm the current condition and maintenance contact for both units.
Inventory matching Juki pedals, 2/3-thread converters, tweezers, spool caps/nets, needle threaders, brushes and spare lower knives, and document where they are stored. A 3 November 2024 report places a converter in the Juki accessory box; confirm it is still there.
Confirm which 130/705 H and left-position JL×2 needles are stocked, their sizes and their storage location.
Confirm the usual foot-pressure and ordinary overlock settings to restore after a conversion.
Confirm the correct oil and lubrication frequency for the two illustrated points; record service dates for each unit.
Confirm whether either unit has an LED conversion or its original lamp before ordering replacement lighting parts.
Confirm both units' return from the 10 October 2026 service trip, record the work completed, inspect both upper-looper thread guides and cutting performance, and update the availability notice.
Seiko STH-8BLD
Version confirmed: The original STH-8BLD, without -2/-3 suffix, was confirmed 13 October 2026 and its model plate photographed clearly on 14 October 2026. The serial/prefix, installed components and applicability of related-manual procedures still need documenting.
Add current head, complete-workstation and model-label photographs, supplied 14 October 2026, showing the pedal/linkage, knee lever, work light and OFF/ON station.
Record the visible local needle-system label 135×17 / DP×17, matching the original parts-book DP×17 designation. The photograph does not establish the size or point of every stocked/fitted needle.
Record the original STH-8BLD's complete serial number and prefix, and photograph its plates. The original-model parts book distinguishes SH and TH serial-prefix components.
Locate the exact original STH-8BLD operator book, or have a maintainer verify and annotate which STH-8BLD-3 procedures apply to this head.
Identify the actual installed Seiko motor/controller and read its rating plate; confirm whether the 750 W servo/needle-positioner kit awaiting installation on 27 August 2026 has been fitted. The 14 October photo shows a grey under-table motor with unreadable ratings and a separate box; the box is not proof of installation. Download matching instructions and document the OFF/ON station's actual stopping behaviour, speed control, pulley ratio and a suitable beginner setting.
Confirm finger and belt guards, motor guarding, table hinges, head rest and knee-lift operation; document safe head tipping.
Confirm the exact upper-thread route, forward handwheel direction, needle orientation and eye-threading direction on the older head.
Confirm the installed hook, bobbin case and bobbin compatibility, loading direction, winding procedure and where supplies are kept. The older book lists bobbin 18034/18034A and serial-dependent bobbin cases: TH 18045, SH 18096, with an appendix for the latter assembly.
Document the usual needle points/sizes, thread sizes, feet and seam settings, with appropriate material tests and practical limits for this machine.
Confirm stitch-length dial calibration and reverse operation, including any known difference between forward and reverse stitch lengths.
Establish the correct oil, annotated oiling points, reservoir level, wick/hook supply checks and service schedule for the older head; do not copy the later -3 quantities without checking.
Record the maintainer/contact, service history and any current faults or missing accessories.
Brother PR-650
Document how members confirm completion of the required introduction, and identify the current authorised instructors and machine-maintenance contact. Matilda announced resumed introductions in August 2026.
Confirm all four ordinary hoops, the extra-fabric frame arrangement and the complete 130 × 60 mm cap kit; label storage locations and missing parts. Check the three spare needle-plate covers purchased in November 2024: delivery/current location and the applicable cap setup still need confirmation.
Verify the current drawer contents against the preserved inventory photos, including needles, bobbins, oil, backing and thread supplies.
Record the exact machine model/product code, installed firmware version and service history; check which Version 2 features are actually installed.
Record the installed Hatch Embroidery, Ink/Stitch and PE-Design versions, licence/access arrangements and whether direct USB computer transfer works on the current computer. Hatch is the main workflow, Ink/Stitch is the open-source alternative, and PE-Design is still installed but may be retired. Record any changes to these installations.
Identify a tested USB stick kept with the machine and document its format and port, keeping the official compatibility list available.
Confirm the ordinary needle sizes and bobbin stock, optional separate winder availability and the correct bobbin-tension test weights.
Establish how daily hook oiling and 40–50-hour needle-bar oiling are recorded so users know when they are due.
Confirm cap-driver mounting, recognition and automatic orientation on the installed machine and document a tested cap-loading procedure.
If errors recur with 107 Dark Fuchsia, document the actual threading, needle and density/overlap cause. The Slack discussion includes both repeated-warning reports in April–May 2025 and successful use in December 2025; it does not establish a colour-wide defect.
Identify the field size and present safety/registration of the hoop repaired on 30 September 2026; check cracks, exposed reinforcement and fabric-contact surfaces. Confirm whether the historically troublesome hoop sensor was permanently repaired/replaced after the April 2025 discussion.
Merrow MG-3U
Confirm the model and serial: MG-3U, serial 213269, clearly photographed 14 October 2026 and rechecked against the July 2023 original. The earlier “212269” transcription was corrected.
Record later conversions and the actual fitted parts before ordering; the confirmed model/serial does not identify every component.
Confirm the current service condition and name the person responsible for maintenance.
Identify the currently fitted drive as the VEVOR 750 W brushless sewing-machine servo motor, member-confirmed by the supplied product image/listing on 14 October 2026; preserve the actual under-table installation photograph and belt drive to the head.
Add the related official VEVOR four-button controller reference, clearly qualified: same panel layout, no exact SKU/controller identification, and generic speed settings exceeding the linked product's advertised range.
Record the fitted controller label/firmware and obtain matching instructions; document pedal, speed control, foot lift, pulley sizes/ratio, isolation point and guards. Record approved current settings and verify whether the needle positioner is fitted, connected and enabled. April 2025's 100–1,000 rpm values remain historical motor settings, not an established present limit or head stitch rate.
Identify the installed threading plates and the matching Merrow diagram, 78 or 78S. Record each thread's fibre, size, strand count and tension route, and keep a labelled known-good border sample.
Confirm the actual border width, needle plate, foot, feed eccentric and stitch density. Record whether cutters and an edge guide are fitted and how the edge should be prepared and positioned.
Confirm compatibility of the Merrow's photographed stock packet marked Groz-Beckert 151×7 / 71×7 / 60M, Nm 100/14, with the actual machine and official Merrow needle specification. Needles were moved into the labelled Merrow thread box in February 2026; the box was reported on the shelf above the machine in September. Locate threading wire 37-318 and record current stock.
Document an illustrated method for this machine for starting, turning corners, overlapping the finished border, removing work and securing the tail.
Confirm that the oil gauge, filler, pumps and return/filter system work. Where is the labelled MG oil of 46 cSt at 40°C kept, and when was the filter last serviced?
Add current full-resolution photographs of the machine/table, sewing area, nameplate and under-table motor, supplied 14 October 2026; display the machine views side by side.
Add close-ups of the actual controls, verified threading, needle/looper area, guarding and labelled good/faulty border samples.
Resolve the April 2026 foot-pressure report and stitch-interlocking report: record whether they were repaired and confirm a current known-good test border.
