Airbrushes

Airbrushes are fragile precision instruments. Take them apart by hand only, and clean them fully after every use.

Several airbrushes: simple ones (including Biltema) and a finer Iwata Eclipse.

Using wall compressed air

The same setup also drives the small HVLP spray gun kept in the airbrush box.

  1. Connect the pressure regulator to the compressed-air hose from the wall.

  2. The regulator already has a small airbrush hose fitted. Connect it to the airbrush or the HVLP gun; both use the same coupling. Don't change the couplings.

  3. Turn on the air at the wall and set the pressure on the regulator.

  4. Paint.

Cleaning

  • Take the airbrush apart and clean each part after every use, or it clogs.

  • Don't use tools to take it apart or reassemble it. A nozzle stuck with dried paint may need a tool. Make sure to turn it the right way: turned the wrong way, it breaks with very little force.

Tips

  • Most paints need thinning with airbrush thinner, possibly with a little water.

  • About one drop of flow improver per few drops of paint stops paint drying on the needle tip.
