Janome Decor Monogram 7200

Computerised sewing machine: general sewing, stretch and decorative stitches, buttonholes, quilting and sewn lettering (monograms in a line — not hoop embroidery; for that, use the Brother PR-650).

Safety

  • Fingers, hair and clothing clear of the needle and take-up lever.

  • Switch off for threading, bobbin, needle and foot changes; unplug for cleaning. (Auto-lock is not a safety stop.)

  • Check the needle clears the foot after changing width or position.

  • No pins, metal or wet glue under the needle.

Needle, bobbin and threading

  • Needle: 75/11–90/14 general, 90/14–100/16 heavy fabrics, Blue Tip for stretch/fine/synthetic. Needle up, power off, insert fully, flat side back.

  • Winding: spool + cap → winding route → through the bobbin hole from inside. Spindle right, hold the tail, trim, wind with speed slider at max. Spindle back left; speed back to slow.

  • Loading: power off. Bobbin unwinds counter-clockwise from above. Front notch → left under the guide (route 1) → must come out of the side notch → route 2 → cutting slot. Refit the cover. No need to pull up the bobbin thread (p. 18).

  • Upper thread: foot up, needle up, power off. Upper guide → down around the check spring → up through the take-up lever right to left → lower guide → behind the left needle-bar guide → needle (p. 19).

  • Threader: single needles 75/11–100/16, needle up, foot down, power off.

How to use

  1. Feed dogs up (rear lever, then turn the wheel towards you).

  2. Straight stitch: mode 1, pattern 00 or 03, foot A, tension 2–6.

  3. Speed slider low. Pedal or Start/Stop (unplug the pedal, power off first).

  4. Needle down at the start, thread tail to the back, foot down, sew slowly.

  5. Lock with reverse (straight) or auto-lock (decorative).

  6. Scissors button, foot up, remove.

  7. Switch off, clean lint, cover the machine.

Pivoting: stop with needle down, raise foot, turn, lower foot.

Thick seams: needle down, hold the black button on foot A while lowering the foot, sew slowly.

Foot pressure (6 levels): 3–6 normal, 1–3 fine and appliqué, 5–6 heavy.

Decorative stitches and lettering

  • MODE selects mode 1/2 (stitches), A (letters/numbers), À (accented). Arrow keys set the two-digit pattern number. Direct buttons: 00, 07, 10, 20.

  • Combinations: select, press M to add (up to 50). Edit: width − to move, C to delete, M to insert. Hold C to clear.

  • Combinations repeat — press auto-lock to stop, or end with mode 2 pattern 99. M + scissors adds a cut at the end.

  • Spaces: mode A 97/98/99 ≈ 2.5/3.5/5 mm.

  • Use foot F and stabilised scrap to test.

Buttonholes

  1. Test on matching fabric and interfacing.

  2. Mode 1, pattern 20, foot R, tension 1–4. Button (10–25 mm) in the rear holder.

  3. Upper thread left through the foot. Mark the start.

  4. Needle down at the mark, foot down, buttonhole lever fully down.

  5. Hold the thread tail left, start, release after a few stitches. It finishes automatically.

  6. Raise the lever. Pin the bartack and open with a seam ripper.

Width + = wider; length + = less dense.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Check

Start/Stop does nothing

Pedal still plugged in; foot up; winder spindle right.

Loops or tangles underneath

Rethread with the foot up; bobbin side-notch route.

Skipped stitches, thread breaks

Fresh needle, fully inserted; threading; tension.

Fabric won't feed

Foot down, feed dogs up, lint.

Distorted letters

Stabiliser, layers, speed.

Buttonhole stops early

Lever fully down, foot R fitted, slider at its stop.

Overload warning

Switch off, clear tangled thread, wait 15 s.
