Maintenance & repairs log — EMCO Maximat Super 11
Dated faults, work and photos for the Metal lathe — EMCO Maximat Super 11. Current instructions are on the machine page.
14 October 2026 — current setup and model name
A new member photo shows the MAXIMAT SUPER 11 label, a mounted chuck, tool holder, tailstock with centre, digital readout and work light. The machine page title and model field were corrected from "EMCO Maximat 11" to "EMCO Maximat Super 11". The milling attachment is not fitted; the older log below records that it was removed on 1 August 2025.
Original photo — current lathe and workstation
The speed plate in the new photo shows the same eight nominal speeds as the attached Super 11 manual (printed page 18 / PDF page 5). This compares the plate with the manual; it is not a measurement of the machine's speeds. No repair or check measurement was reported with the photo.
DRO installation history
2022 — Ditron D80 and scales installed
Installed the Ditron D80 readout, 700 mm DMA bed scale and 150 mm DMS cross-slide scale, later in 2022 following the April order.
The 150 mm DMS top-slide scale was never mounted. The lathe now often uses a riser block in place of the top slide for increased rigidity.
Current scale layout, drawings and DRO manual.
April 2022 — Magnetic scales ordered
Ordered scales for the top slide (150 mm), cross slide (150 mm) and bed (700 mm). DMA was selected for lengths over 400 mm and DMS for lengths up to and including 400 mm.
Earlier log and plans from the machine page
Historical entries are kept with their dates, and completed items are struck through. Older open plans describe the needs at the time; check their status before treating them as a current to-do list.
Log
First week of November 2014: Tools bought — new drill chuck for the lathe (B22 taper), knurling tool with 3 pairs of wheels, parting tool.
2014-11-08 (Sven, #1889): Took apart, cleaned and reassembled the tailstock, but the key in the slot may have been damaged; to be checked as soon as possible.
2014-11-09 (Sven, #1889): New slot key made and fitted.
2014-11-26 (Erik, #1005): New B22 drill chuck arbor bought for the chuck Sven mentions above.
2014-12-01 (Sven, #1889): Chuck guard and shear pin similar to the original fitted.
2025-08-01 (Chris, Marcus V): Removed the vertical mill attachment as it was just getting in the way. It was connected to pins 5, 6, 7, with the black cable with green tape on pin 5.

Plans / to do
Nov 2015: The tailstock now moves more easily, and new handles have been ordered for the machine. The tailstock still needs centring.
Fit new levers (ordered)
Check the tailstock issue above; replace the key if needed.Make new shear pins (EMCO part no. C6A 070 190) of the original type.Shear pin drawing
Make a mount for the existing chuck guard, which actually belongs to another lathe.
Historical instruction for the removed milling attachment
Moved from the machine page's instructions, since the milling attachment is no longer fitted. It does not apply to the lathe's current setup:
The milling attachment's taper is a Morse type and sticks easily if the drawbar is overtightened. Use a hex key, but don't overdo it — tap-tightening force is enough. To release it, loosen 2–3 turns so that as many threads as possible are still engaged, then tap straight down on the drawbar with a hammer to free the taper.
