Giant hotend, wall decoration
A very scaled-up Bambu hotend decorates the wall above the printers in the 3D Printing room. Its front reads Stockholm Makerspace, and it appears to “print” a 3 m RGB LED rope, ~15mm diameter, purchased from LEDmegastore.
With the room lights off, it gives the room a colourful, cosy atmosphere without being too bright.
Built by Erik Cederberg, with help from Alex Lopez to install it on 18 October 2026.

Using the lights
Switch lighting modes: press the white button near the top of the grey heated section to cycle through the different modes.
Power: the decoration is powered by a USB adapter plugged into the power strip on the inner side of the corner shelf.

Remote control and a possible improvement
The remote control is kept in the room dev box. It currently does not work with the installed decoration because the controller sits inside the hotend.
A possible future improvement is to reprint the white button in transparent resin, or make it from a stack of laser-cut acrylic. That might let the remote signal reach the controller; it has not been tested.
How it was made
The parts were printed in grey, black and white Bambu PLA Basic on Erik's personal Bambu H2D.
All of it could also have been printed at the Makerspace.
It mounts to the wall with four 20mm diameter / 7mm tall pot magnets and countersunk screws.
The tip and the heatbreak attaches to the meltzone with 5x12mm self-threading screws for plastic.
