Settings
Setting | Range | Starting point |
|---|---|---|
Voltage (switch) | 10 steps | 5–6 |
Wire feed | 0–18 m/min | 5–7 m/min |
Gas flow | 0–20 l/min | 5–10 l/min |
Adjust voltage and wire feed to the material thickness.
How to use
Prepare
Open the gas cylinder and set the regulator.
Check the flow: hold the nozzle up and press the trigger for a couple of seconds.
Check the wire and wire feed. Never feed the wire backwards. Cut it to about 20 mm stick-out.
Check polarity and inductance. Spray anti-spatter into the nozzle.
Connect the correct earth connection. Clamp the earth close to the weld, but not so close that heat damages the clamp. Good contact is most of the job.
Start the extraction fan and place the arm near the work. Too close blows away the shielding gas.
Weld
Tack the parts first, because steel moves as it heats. Make each tack within 5 seconds of the last.
Press the trigger; it starts gas, wire feed and current together. Rest the nozzle against the work and pull it slowly along the joint. Watch the pool to judge the speed. Weave slightly for a deeper weld.
Let the work cool. Move hot parts with tools, not gloves.
When done
Close the gas at the cylinder. The regulator will still show pressure; that is the gas left between the cylinder and the regulator.
Let the nozzle cool before hanging up the torch.
Clean up. Never weld onto the welding table, which must stay flat.
