Maintenance and repairs log — Arboga E100

Dated installation, faults, inspections and repairs for Drill press — Arboga E100 (Metal). Use the main guide for current operation and the Metal — Open questions page for unresolved checks.

Historical reports are not evidence of present faults or completed inspections. Retain the ceiling-securing arrangement, keep speed changes at standstill and do not fill the gearbox with oil.

2018 refurbishment project

The major February–March 2018 refurbishment by Erik Cederberg, Theeo and Bullen is documented on its own refurbishment child page. It includes the cleaning/refinishing, SKF bearing renewal, table welding and resurfacing, transport-related rim break and all 15 supplied historical photographs. The column-top motor-protection on/off box was already in use from 2017. Chris's replacement of both wooden locking handles is dated July 2020 in the entry below.

July 2020 — wooden locking handles made by Chris

Chris turned two replacement handles from wood and fitted them to the head/column and table-support/column locking levers in July 2020. The accompanying photograph shows both installed: the upper wooden grip locks the head to the column, and the lower wooden grip locks the table support to the column.

Outcome / source

19 December 2023

A tool was reported stuck; the source photograph shows a hole saw held in the chuck.

No resolution identified in the reviewed thread; do not infer that a tool remains stuck today. Report.

4–8 January 2024

Head-height adjustment was initially reported impossible. Inspection found a tight temporary locking handle and a cable wrapped around a crank.

Adjustment worked after releasing the lock and clearing the cable; a positive upper stop was reported. Check cable clearance and the correct lock before cranking. Initial report, resolution.

25–27 April 2025

Drill press moved into the inner room and described as usable. A later unplugged-machine question received a connection reply.

Installation history only; check current controls, isolation and securing before operation. Relocation, follow-up.

23 January 2026

Local report says the drill press is secured to the ceiling because the floor is thin concrete above sand.

Preserve the securing arrangement and report movement/looseness. No present-condition inspection is established by the message. Report.

8–9 April 2026

Several chuck arbors were reported bent through rough use and replaced over the years. MK2 spindle / B16 chuck identification was given, then the floor-machine taper was questioned as MK3.

Stop and inspect visible runout. Installed taper/chuck remains to be verified; historical E100 catalogue says MT3. Arbor/MT2 report, MT3 question.

14 October 2026

Member supplied current whole-machine and head/table photographs; the sparse existing E100 guide was expanded.

Original images and model-qualified references attached to the main guide. No repair or calibration is implied.

14 October 2026

Original four-page E100-family Swedish lubrication/disassembly and parts scan recovered. Existing generic Arboga maintenance video retained.

Downloaded manufacturer instructions, PDF p. 2: do not fill gear casing with oil; use limited oil at intended points and avoid over-lubrication. Existing video is supplementary, with E100 applicability unverified.

14 October 2026 — identification and selector-plate documentation

The member supplied a readable current plate close-up and an older full-plate photograph taken during refurbishment, whose capture date is unknown. The current close-up confirms E100, No. 46912, 3-phase AC, 380 V Y / 220 V Δ, 1.15 / 2.0 A, 0.6 HK and 2800 rpm motor speed. Both photographs show the same four nominal spindle speeds: 200 / 390 / 680 / 1300 rpm.

The historical full chart supplies the two-lever mapping added to the main guide. With the chart upright, directions refer to each knob relative to its own pivot: 1300 = right/right; 680 = right/left; 390 = left/right; 200 = left/left, upper lever first, with both positions upward-leaning. The printed warning is BRYT STRÖMMEN VID VÄXLING. This entry documents the plates; no repair or speed measurement was reported.

14 October 2026 — fitted spring-return retrofit identified

The member confirmed that this E100 has a spring-return kit, replacing the original counterweight-based quill return, and supplied the assembly video below. The kit designer is Mr3D, identified from his own 15 January 2023 presentation, which links the same video under the Mr3D92 channel. The main guide now describes the fitted modification and distinguishes it from the factory return mechanism. The installation date and installed kit version are not recorded; this is not an installation or repair performed today.

Maker's E100 spring-kit presentation — the maker marks a function test at 15:35 in the video. His thread documents his own machine's wider refurbishment; only the member-confirmed spring-return kit is identified here as a modification to the local machine. No preload or adjustment setting has been derived.

Related local safety report

In February 2026 a local CNC-channel discussion described a 16 mm twist drill grabbing in 3 mm stainless sheet, pulling the work out of a vise and deforming it despite a backing piece. The discussion also warns about sheet metal catching and spinning. This is useful workholding/tool-selection evidence; it is not a documented E100 repair or a present fault.

Incident report, local sheet-drilling warning.

Recording a new entry

State the date, reporter, symptom, tool/material, gear setting and workholding. Add photographs or a Slack permalink. Distinguish a proposed fix, completed work and a verified result; say whether the machine remains out of use.

For chuck/arbor work, record the actual spindle taper, both arbor ends, chuck model/range and measured runout. For controls or securing changes, identify the arrangement and checks. Do not mark a setting, electrical feature or repair verified from an old report alone.

Maintainer references

Isolate electrical power before internal service, and use competent maintainers for bearing, motor, wiring and securing work. Record lubricant, point and quantity used, and any post-service checks.

Report faults through #metallrummet.
