Maintenance and repairs log — Brother PR-650

Repair, maintenance and software history for the Brother PR-650. Routine cleaning, oiling and operating instructions are on the machine page.

Dated reports describe what was known at the time. A reported repair does not establish the present condition of every accessory. Outstanding checks are collected in Open questions.

30 September–5 October 2026 — Hoop repair

A hoop broke at its mounting end on 30 September, after an earlier glue repair had failed. The same-day discussion records reinforcement of the mounting area. Replies on 5 October discuss smoothing the repair surface to protect fabric.

Still to verify: identify the hoop's embroidery field and confirm its current attachment, registration, cracks and fabric-contact surfaces. Stop using a hoop that cannot be attached securely.

22 September 2026 — All six needles replaced

All six needles were replaced, and 50 replacement needles were reported stocked. The photo posted with the report shows the removed needles' tips.

Storage guidance places replacement needles immediately below the machine with the manuals. Check the present stock rather than relying on the dated quantity.

14–16 September 2026 — Hatch sign-in problem resolved

A Hatch sign-in problem was reported on 14 September. It was reported fixed on 16 September.

Hatch Embroidery remains the main design workflow. Report renewed access problems to the room contacts.

20 May 2026 — Fabric shifted out of registration

A reported embroidery incident involved fabric slipping out of the hoop during a long job. Stitch-position recovery cannot restore the exact placement of fabric that has moved relative to the frame. The discussion recommends registration marks and the positioning guides in the drawers.

Use suitable removable marks where helpful, test them on the fabric first, and hoop fabric/backing securely.

18 May 2026 — Hatch Embroidery installed

Hatch Embroidery 4 Digitizer was announced as installed on the embroidery computer.

The machine page describes the current workflow: Hatch as the main software, Ink/Stitch as an open-source alternative, and PE-Design still installed but potentially retired in future.

April–December 2025 — Intermittent warnings with Dark Fuchsia thread

April–May reports describe repeated warnings with 107 Dark Fuchsia, including thread piling up on the reverse. A December follow-up reports successful use, while another member still reported intermittent trouble.

The cause remains unresolved; the discussion does not establish a colour-wide defect. If it recurs, record the thread route, needle, design density/overlap and test result so the fault can be investigated.

September 2024–April 2025 — Frame-detection fault

A frame-detection problem had a temporary repair in September 2024. A replacement was still being discussed in April 2025.

Still to verify: whether the sensor was permanently repaired or replaced. Use the holder's correct marked/detented position and trace the actual embroidery area. Stop for an incorrect centre or unexpected movement.

28 February 2025 — Oil pen supplied

An oil pen was reported supplied for the hook area. Use the oil type, quantity and location specified in the machine page's Care section.

29 November 2024 — Spare needle-plate covers ordered

Three spare needle-plate covers were reported purchased. Their delivery, present location and applicability to the cap arrangement still need checking.

2019 — Installation and table support

Stockholm Makerspace owns the crowdfunded machine. The installation record dates installation to 7 February 2019 and the addition of a table-support leg to 1 March 2019.

Adding a maintenance entry

Record the date, symptom, work performed, parts used and result. Include useful photos and a source or contact for follow-up. Distinguish completed repairs from proposed work and confirm the result with an appropriate test.

History consolidated on 13 October 2026.
