Maintenance and repairs log — OptiPolish GU25P

Dated commissioning, maintenance and repair records for the OptiPolish GU25P, 400 V version. Keep practical operating information in the machine guide.

14 October 2026 — replacement machine and commissioning plan

A member confirmed that the former Makerspace-built Polermaskin was scrapped several years ago. Its exact disposal date was not supplied; historical documentation is retained under Previous Machines.

The new OptiPolish GU25P, 400 V version, is in commissioning. The intended setup uses a VFD to vary speed and a foot pedal for hands-free normal on/off control. No completed installation, final speed range, pedal mode or release for member use was reported.

The main guide now includes the official Optimum article 3101550 ratings and the manufacturer's GU-family manual v1.0.7, 19 May 2023, explicitly covering GU25P. These sources describe factory configurations, rather than documenting the local VFD/pedal circuit.

Source details requiring attention

  • The shared manual lists S6 60% duty on p. 12. Establish appropriate load/thermal limits for the actual motor and VFD setup.

  • Catalogue dimensions are approximately 555 × 250 × 296 mm; the p. 16 drawing gives 591 mm across the nuts and 297 mm height. Measure the actual envelope and mounting pattern before designing or drilling a support.

  • The polishing-wheel replacement instructions on p. 21 and parts table on p. 36 give opposing left/right thread directions. Confirm the installed fasteners and correct procedure with the manufacturer; do not force a nut based on the conflicting descriptions.

  • The factory Vario diagram on p. 37 describes a Siemens V20 / GU1 extraction arrangement. It neither identifies the local VFD nor establishes pedal behavior. The p. 20 current-sensing extraction discussion also warns that low-speed operation may not trigger extraction automatically.

Commissioning results to record before release

  • Record machine/motor plates, serial number, duty, actual supply, VFD make/model, approved wiring and parameter record. Have the electrical installation, protection, earthing, thermal protection and applicable EMC requirements checked by a qualified person.

  • Verify and label permitted minimum/maximum speed, correct rotation, speed indication and satisfactory running under the intended load. Check wheel speed/load ratings and motor cooling/duty limits.

  • Document pedal mode and start/stop sequence, normal stopping/coast-down, emergency stopping and safe isolation. Test behavior after power loss, VFD fault/reset and reconnection; prevent unexpected restarting.

  • Check rigid fixing, stability, clearances, shaft-end covers/cap nuts, sleeves/flanges and both fitted wheels. Resolve the thread-direction discrepancy before wheel-service instructions are released.

  • Establish effective dust extraction/collection for the intended metal and compound combinations. Verify how it is started at every allowed speed; do not assume automatic current sensing works at low VFD speed.

  • Demonstrate suitable wheel/compound selection, workholding, safe contact area/orientation, hands-free pedal use and cleanup. Record supported materials, difficult/small-part restrictions and operator instruction arrangements.

  • Record the commissioning date, responsible person, test results and explicit release for member use; then update the main guide with the verified controls and limits.

Adding future service entries

Record the date, person, work completed, parts/settings changed and checks performed. A plan or checklist is not a completed repair or commissioning result.
