2 October 2026 — Fence squareness differs along the tables
A member could not obtain square edges on walnut, cherry and maple pieces about 600 × 50 × 50 mm. After advice to square the fence, the final reply reports it square at infeed but not fully square at outfeed. Status: unresolved in this thread; no alignment measurements or completed repair recorded. Full discussion, final observation.
9 September 2026 — Sheartak retrofit and pulley fit identified
The maintainer who provided the custom drawings identified Sheartak as the spiral-cutter supplier. He recalls a pulley-side diameter discrepancy of about 0.02 mm that produced a slip fit instead of the intended press fit; the local pulley was retained with Loctite. He reported informing Sheartak, but did not know whether their drawings were corrected. Status: useful modification identification; recalled measurements are not replacement-part dimensions or a disassembly procedure. Firsthand account.
4–5 September 2026 — Feed gears, yellow belt and switch/case repair
Spare parts arrived and were placed in the plastic “maintenance spare…” box on 4 September. The 5 September report records both worn gears replaced, a new yellow belt, and correction of loose/broken emergency-switch and case fittings. The planer was tested and reported working. It asks for tension and gear alignment to be checked after about a month. Status: dated working test; that follow-up check is not recorded in the reviewed thread. Parts arrival, repair report.

9–24 August 2026 — Feed failure and replacement-parts procurement
The feed-engagement mechanism failed during use on 9 August and could not be fixed during initial troubleshooting. A maintainer explained that a plastic gear had been replaced a few months earlier while its worn aluminium mating gear remained because no supplier had been found. The later procurement discussion identifies incomplete gear-width engagement/misalignment as a concern, and calls for measuring end play and correcting alignment. Status: the two-gear repair is reported on 5 September above; do not carry forward the early guesses about clutch operation as instructions. Failure and full replies, procurement/alignment discussion.
The procurement discussion links Scheppach drive wheel 62005500 and clutch spur gear 62005608. These are dated local ordering references; match the installed assembly before ordering. Parts identification. It also records a report of bowing when jointing longer pieces; table alignment or wear was suspected, with technique explicitly not excluded. No measurement or corrective-work report closes that observation. 18 August observation.
1 June 2026 — Worn feed pulley replaced
The planer was reported operational after a worn pulley was replaced. The gear driving it was also reported badly worn, awaiting a replacement supplier. Status: partial repair at that date; the August failure and September two-gear repair supersede this condition report. Report.
12–25 March 2026 — Uneven-cut report followed by a good-use report
A member reported uneven jointing/thicknessing and suspected cutterhead alignment. A reply proposed measurement, but no completed alignment work is recorded. On 25 March the original reporter said recent timber had come out well. Status: subsequent good result, not a documented alignment repair or permission to use MDF for diagnostic cuts. Full thread.
5–8 March 2026 — Fence touched inserts; selected inserts rotated
An insecure fence contacted the inserts; the fence surface and handle screw were reported damaged. Initial “seems good” feedback was corrected when ridges appeared. Selected damaged inserts were rotated to the best available edges on 7 March and a good finish was reported. Status: insert finish reportedly improved; a separate completed repair of the bent handle/fence is not recorded. Full incident/repair thread, rotation result.
The insert-screw tightening range is 5.42–5.88 Nm (48–52 in-lb). Use the matching Sheartak inserts and screws and the dedicated torque tool. The machine page contains the current maintainer guidance.
15–16 February 2026 — Insert rotation and tightening follow-up
Cleaning and cutter rotation were reported on 15 February. Replies established that ordinary screwdrivers had initially been used and a caution note was left. On 16 February the edges were assessed, tightening with the dedicated torque tool was agreed, and “done” was reported. Status: tightening follow-up reported; edge-life/remaining rotations were estimates rather than an inventory of each insert. Full thread, completion. The discussion locates the dedicated torque wrench in the maintenance drawer; check its actual availability and suitable range before work.
20–22 January 2026 — Main belt, access modification and motor-support locking
Following a main-drive-belt failure, a new belt was fitted on 20 January. The cutter was tentatively aligned and a test piece was reported good; a more expert alignment check was invited. The repair also modified access so a later belt change would not require dismantling the entire machine. On 22 January, spring washers and an additional locking bolt were fitted to the motor support to resist upward movement and belt slackening; its position was marked. Status: dated local modification, with no engineering dimensions or universal belt-change procedure established. Belt-fitting discussion, working test/access modification, locking change.
20–21 January 2026 — Thicknesser outfeed thumb-pinch near miss
A thumb was nearly trapped between the advancing board and the rail supporting the jointer fence. The reporter recommended an open-hand receiving position. A fixed covering/guard for the gap was proposed, but no completed mitigation is recorded. Status: unresolved local pinch point; keep fingers/thumbs out of the closing gap. Full near-miss discussion.

Illustrations show the reported hand-position issue, not the machine's gap or a complete operating setup.
1–25 November 2025 — Guard-support threads damaged
Threads in the aluminium part securing the cutter guard were reported stripped on 1 November. Repair options were discussed. The community-day report on 25 November describes the safety-part thread repair as still in progress; table surfaces had been cleaned, waxing was uncertain and feed-gear lubrication had not been done. Status: no explicit closure of this specific guard-thread repair in the reviewed discussion. Inspect the fitted guard's secure fastening before use. Fault thread, community-day report.
23 June 2025 — Thin-strip carrier jig added
A labelled JIG #1 / THIN STRIP JIG was added for veneer work. The post briefly describes masking tape and superglue workholding. Status: accessory reported present then; present storage, condition, secure workholding and approved dimension limits need demonstration. This entry does not waive the main page's minimum stock dimensions. Announcement and photo.

10–16 June 2025 — Cutterhead-bearing service and reassembly
A high-pitched noise led to replacement-bearing procurement and a planned cutterhead/pulley removal. The thread records reassembly and the machine “whole again and spinning” on 16 June; the final reply says only a basic function check had been performed and a proper test was planned. Status: reassembled/basic function reported; no final noise-test result is recorded in that thread. Full service discussion, reassembly report.
22 May–6 June 2025 — Jointing table lock and light-pass reminder
The setup discussion clarifies that the lifting handle must be fully pushed down to lock the outfeed table for jointing. The user later reported obtaining good results with much lighter cuts in hard oak. Status: useful operating clarification, incorporated into the main page. Lock clarification, result.
3 January–7 February 2025 — Feed-mechanism replacement completed
The earlier wiki records failed aluminium feed gears on 2 January and replacement gears/chains ordered. Slack records a full new gear-set order on 10 January and arrival in late January. On 7 February, the feed mechanism was reported replaced the previous week and the planer fully working. Status: this closes the early-2025 repair more clearly than the older wiki; later feed failures have separate entries above. January procurement, February completion report.
5 January 2025 — Insert edges rotated
The earlier machine page records insert rotation and good test cuts. The five marking photos are a historical edge record, not a present assessment: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Archived machine history.
10–12 December 2024 — Pulley retaining bond failed
The cutterhead turned slowly and unevenly while its drive pulley turned. The eventual diagnosis was failure of the retaining bond between the retrofit shaft and pulley. The pulley was re-bonded on 11 December, with three days' curing requested. A badly worn main belt was also ordered and replacement belts were reported in the drawer on 12 December. Status: repair/procurement reported at that date; no DIY pinning/drilling suggestions from the exploratory thread are operating or repair instructions. Full diagnosis/repair thread.
February 2022 — Sheartak spiral cutterhead installed
A custom Sheartak spiral cutterhead and new bearings were installed on the makerspace's 1994 machine, replacing its straight knives. The head has 55 four-edge carbide inserts. The original pulley was retained on the new shaft using Loctite 638 retaining compound. The pulley bond was subsequently repaired in December 2024.
The fitted insert type is 15 × 15 × 2.5 mm, R150. Insert screws use 5.42–5.88 Nm (48–52 in-lb) with the matching screws and torque tool. Keep factory straight-knife adjustment instructions separate from the spiral-head servicing.

The cutter guard is absent in this identification photograph. Restore and secure the required guard before use.
1 June 2021 — Feed-gear bearings replaced
Two needle bearings on the plastic automatic-feed gear were replaced. The archive identifies 1012 needle bearings and an 8 × 340 mm flat feed belt, with supplier article 50-2631. Historical counts of one spare belt, two bearings and ten carbide inserts require a fresh inventory. Archived history.
January 2021 — Motor, protection and feed gears
The archive records a replacement motor, motor protection and some feed gears. Match installed equipment before using factory motor data or wiring drawings. Archived history.
1 November 2020 — Motor keyway/pulley fault
A motor-keyway/pulley fault was recorded; later motor/drive work is listed above. Archived history.
January–March 2020 — Extraction hood and fence installation
The planer collection hood was built in January 2020; the fence was installed on 19 March. These are modification dates, not confirmation of today's guard or extraction condition. Archived history.
