Several of our floors are painted with epoxy.

Before starting with the paint sand the floor so the paint sticks better.

In general use a layer of primer and then two layers of paint

The time between each layer is minimum 12 hours but maximum four days.

Curing time to be able to walk on it normally is a number of days. Putting heavy loads on it is a week. So it is good if it is left to cure for a week before walking on it.

How to

Equipment

  • Primer and paint
  • Bucket to mix it in
  • A few cans/buckets (dunkar sv), for instance a water can, to store unused components in
  • Paint mixer attachment for the electric drill
  • Scale to measure the amount of each component
  • Paint rollers
  • Paint brush
  • Nitrile gloves
  • breathing masks (of the correct types) are recommended
  • Shoes that are clean from dirt, gravel etc that can get paint on them
  • Wear clothes that you can get paint on

Preparation

  1. Make sure you have all the stuff you need ready so you are ready to paint after mixing the components
  2. Clean the paint rolls from loose fabric or it comes loose during painting and gets stuck in the paint
  3. Measure up the amount you need of each component
  4. Mix it

After mixing you got about 30-45 minutes to paint before it hardens too much

Painting

  • Start with painting the near walls where the rollers cant reach with the brush
  • Initially the rollers are going to soak up a lot of paint
  • Paint in a similar manner as you would a wall but make sure the layers aren't too thick
  • Don't walk on the paint while painting
  • With clean shoes you can walk on it after 12 hours to put on the next layer. Be careful not to have any gravel etc under the shoes. They need to be clean. The floor is going to feel sticky

Cleanup

  • The brush is probably trashed
