The goal of this page is to give basic overview and introduction to safety related to the usage of machines and equipment.
These are the general safety rules related to machines with moving or rotating parts.
General
- Plan and organize your work
- Do not rush
- If something feels sketchy, take a step back and think
- "I'm just going to..." is the start of many sketchy things
- Don't use dangerous equipment and machines when tired or unfocused
- Let things you drop fall. There is no way safe way to catch a falling knife.
- No headphones
Clothing
- No loose or baggy clothing of any kind such as ties, scarves, loose sleeves and skirts
- No jewellery
- Contain and pull back long hair
- Contain and pull back long beards
- Gloves should not be used with most machines. There are some exceptions but they are not many
- Closed toe shoes, i.e. no sandals and the like
