Welcome to the Stockholm Makerspace! You are now a part of Sweden's largest independent makerspace. We work together to remain an independent and member-driven tech haven for community and creation.
Welcome to the Stockholm Makerspace! You are now a part of Sweden's largest independent makerspace. We work together to remain an independent and member-driven tech haven for community and creation.

Everything at Stockholm Makerspace is built, bought, transported, and renovated by members like you and me. No one gets a salary and we get no grants. The reason why we can pay the rent is that we are many who help out by paying membership dues. It's amazing what people can create together. If you think there is something that can be developed then you are most welcome to get involved in the operation of our association.

That everything at the space is done by members gives us a lot of freedom, but it also brings additional responsibilities for you as a member. We all clean the space together, repair broken machines together, and together we maintain the welcoming atmosphere at the space.

As a member in the organisation you’re welcome to attend our events and workshops, as well as vote at the annual meeting. If you wish to do independent projects on your own on the premises, you need to become a lab member.
As a member of the organisation, you’re welcome to attend our events and workshops, as well as vote at the annual meeting. If you wish to do independent projects on your own on the premises, you need to get Makerspace Access.

Makerspace Access
The premises are open 24/7 for members with Makerspace Access, all year long, but to gain access you need to first attend a <bdi>new member introduction</bdi> ("medlemsintroduktion" in Swedish). We do not use physical keys, instead we use a system which uses your smartphone, Accessy. You can read more about it and what phone are supported on the wiki page for Accessy.

Lab membership
<bdi>New member introduction</bdi> occur approximately every two weeks, and they’re called "medlemsintroduktion" in the calendar. To gain access to the premises, you need to sign an agreement where you agree to adhere to our rules ("lokalregler"), and you also need to show an ID.

All activities are run by volunteers, like you and me. We help each other learn the machines so that everyone can work independently. Share what you can, and ask for help if you get stuck. Some machines require that you have attended a course: welding (svetsrummet), laser cutter, and resin printer. Courses are advertised on Slack and can also be found on the calendar. There is no queue- first come, first served.

Absolutely! Email the board at info@makerspace.se to talk about the set up, creating a sign-up, and posting the course in the calendar. Perhaps check if other members are interested by posting about it in the Facebook group or Slack first?

My lab membership is running out, do I have to come in person again to activate the tag?
No. If you already have a tag, you do not need to come to a "medlemsintroduktion" again. Your tag will be updated from our side.

When should I pay for more lab membership so I don't get locked out?
My Makerspace Access is running otu, do I have to come in person again to activate it?
The access list is automatically synchronized with Accessy every Friday morning at 05:00. So if you pay for lab membership, the time will be added on the next Friday morning. Please note that this applies whether or not the your lab membership is currently active, so please extend your lab membership ahead of time if you wish to have uninterrupted access to the makerspace.
No. If you have already been to a member introduction, your access will be updated immediately when you renew it.

Purchases for the organization should be democratic as much as possible. Unfortunately, we only have 300m2 of space and it is packed with things, so donations and purchases must be approved by the board before purchasing and transport to the premises. If you want to get compensation for expenses that are made for our common machine park then you need to have the purchase approved by a board member or purchase manager before purchasing. You also have to save the purchase receipt and send it to our treasurer according to Redovisning av Utlägg so that our treasurer can handle the accounting properly. In the case of more expensive purchases, the Board needs to meet to make a joint decision before a purchase can be made.

If there is space available, you can place your project on the hall shelves for a maximum of 3 months. Your project should be marked with date, membership number and name, otherwise it will disappear. We have room for purchased sheets of plywood, acrylic and the like opposite the laser cutter in the workshop room.
There are a few shelves in the storage room dedicated to storage for larger projects. You can store projects there for a short amount of time while you are working on it, or for a maximum of 60 days. Your project must be labeled with a sticker from the Memberbooth (name, member number, date), otherwise it will be thrown away. Space is in short supply, so make sure to take your project home when you are not actively working on it. We also have dedicated storage for large sheets of plywood, acrylic, and the like, opposite the laser cutter in the big room.

I left my project on a table overnight, and now it's gone!
If you leave projects at the space, they must either be stored in your lab box, the project shelves in the storage room, or other dedicated storage areas. In addition, it must be properly labeled. If you leave something which is not properly labeled, there's a large risk that it gets thrown away, or moved to a Lost&Found box.

We have a cleaning service that we pay a considerable amount to mop floors and tables every week. But the cleaner does not touch tables with things on them, and does not clean floors where things are. It is very important that you clean up after yourself, so that we all can have a common, clean room.

All Board members are volunteers and we meet about once per month. At the board meetings we discuss the financials, upcoming <bdi>new member introductions</bdi> ("medlemsintroduktioner"), any problems, and decide on larger purchases. If you want to contact the Board, email info@makerspace.se .
