1.11 Starting and watching the print

Module 1 · Part 3: Your print, step by step · Lesson 11 of 14 · about 1 min

Before you start the print in Bambu Studio, check four things: the right printer, the right plate, the right filament slot, and bed levelling on Auto.

Three first layers. Left: a good one, with even, fully joined lines. Middle: one printed too high, whose lines are not fully joined, so they separate when it is peeled off. Right: one printed too low, rough and wavy

✅ Hard rule. Stay with the printer and watch until the whole first layer is finished. Not ten minutes: the whole first layer, however long it takes.

Almost every serious failure shows up in the first layer. Once it is finished and stuck down evenly, you may leave the room or the makerspace, and let the job run overnight.

It is a good habit to look again once the print is about a centimetre tall, though it is not a rule. Some problems only appear once the part gets taller.

If something looks wrong and you aren't sure what to do, ask in the Slack channel #3D-Skrivare.
