2.9 The H2S: use it only when you need it

Module 2 · Lesson 9 of 10 · about 1 min

The two H2S printers are there for one reason: they print bigger. According to the manufacturer, the build area is about 340 × 320 × 340 mm, compared with the X2D's 256 × 256 × 260 mm.

✅ Hard rule: fair use. Only use an H2S when the job needs the size: one object that is physically large, or a batch of parts that won't reasonably fit on an X2D.

There are eight X2Ds and only two H2Ss. An ordinary print on an H2S takes up half of the room's large-print capacity.

Other things to know about the H2S:

  • One nozzle, fed by one AMS 2 Pro. Every colour change and every switch to support material is a full filament change with purging, so 2.5 Multi-colour printing matters even more here than on an X2D.

  • Its own allow-list: PLA and PETG, plus breakaway support to match, such as Bambu Support for PLA or Support for PLA/PETG. ABS and ASA are not on it.

  • Textured PEI plates.

  • A heated chamber, like the X2D's. A warm chamber helps keep prints from warping.
