Grinding surfaces and setup

The manufacturer describes grinding on the flat platen, a contact wheel and the slack belt, with the machine in a vertical or horizontal position. The local photo shows the flat platen and work table.

Disconnect power before changing the belt, table, arms or machine orientation. Have the setup and locking points shown to you if you are unfamiliar with them.

Safety

  • Wear eye protection and hearing protection. Use suitable respiratory protection where needed.

  • No gloves; tie back hair, remove jewellery and secure loose clothing.

  • Inspect the belt for damage or fraying. Keep guards in place.

  • Secure the work rest with minimum clearance from the belt.

  • Keep fingers away from the belt and rollers. Use a jig or holding device for small or thin pieces.

  • Stop and disconnect power before belt changes, cleaning or setup adjustments.

Basic use

  1. With power disconnected, check the belt, guards and work rest.

  2. Locate the stop and emergency-stop controls before starting. If unfamiliar, get them shown to you.

  3. Check the extraction arrangement and keep the work clear of the belt when starting.

  4. Support the work securely and use light pressure, keeping fingers clear.

  5. Stop, wait for the belt to come to a complete halt, and clean the machine and surrounding area.

Maintenance

  • Keep the machine, motor vents and work area clean.

  • Replace damaged or frayed belts with suitable 50 × 2000 mm belts.

  • Report faults in Slack. Electrical work and changes to the motor or drive are for qualified personnel.
