Metal — Open questions

Open questions for the Metal equipment. Add confirmed operating information to the machine guide and dated work/results to its maintenance child page. These checks do not change access permissions or certify equipment condition.

Read the GUANGDU M20 machine guide for current operating information and the maintenance child page for dated reports.

Electric tapping arm — GUANGDU M20

  • Identify the photographed arm and ratings: GUANGDU / 苏州光度机械设备有限公司 (Suzhou Guangdu Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd.), model M20, head marked WB-90/12, rated range M3–M20, 220 V / 50 Hz, 1500 W, 1.1 m working radius, 500 rpm maximum, production-date code 2508. Original photographs supplied 14 October 2026.

  • Record the member-confirmed DIN and ISO tapping chucks covering M2–M18 and custom 3D-printed organizers. This does not establish that M2 is within the arm's rated range or that every intermediate size/variant is present.

  • Recover the locally shared English family booklet: cover and printed pages 1–17, compiled from ten photographs into a PDF. It covers M12/M16/M20/M24/M36/M42 and matches the local controls and most M20 plate ratings; it has no GUANGDU branding, and its M20 radius is 1000 mm rather than the plate's 1.1 m. Warranty page 18 was not photographed.

  • Verify the exact GUANGDU/controller revision, production-code interpretation and serial identifier; obtain the matching manufacturer's original manual and any applicable service/electrical documentation.

  • Resolve M2 holder availability versus the arm's M3 minimum. Publish an approved operating limit rather than extending the rating from the chuck inventory. Confirm material-specific maximum sizes; the nominal M20 rating is not proof that every material or tap is suitable.

  • Inventory each GT12 holder by DIN/ISO dimensional standard, thread-size label, actual shank diameter, square size and clutch type. Inspect the M18 and other large holders recalled as non-clutch types; do not turn “M18, IIRC” into a verified inventory entry.

  • Confirm that the preset mechanical clutches remain correct; record any measured calibration and permitted maintenance method. The two-hole outer ring is a torque adjuster, not the routine tap-release control.

  • Check the electronic torque function: it was photographed Off and later reported nonresponsive. Verify its actual behavior, units and protection before relying on it; do not substitute it for secure clamping or a verified chuck clutch.

  • Demonstrate normal stopping, jam recovery and emergency isolation for both manual and automatic modes. Identify whether a dedicated emergency stop is fitted; the visible red rocker is a power switch.

  • Verify workholding after the April 2026 near-miss: clamp the workpiece and restrain the vise/fixture to the bench. Record available clamps/bench holes, column anchoring and any completed bench modification.

  • Demonstrate ordinary depth setup, true thread pitch, displayed depth accuracy, reverse speed and automatic-cycle behavior. Document separate approval/setup for deep-hole cycles (specified in revolutions), left-hand threads and horizontal/head-orientation changes.

  • Finish/check organizer labels, storage locations and DIN/ISO slot mapping; link the printable model if available. Local January documentation describes hidden magnets and Gridfinity-compatible bases.

  • Confirm the machine's current instruction/contact, booking, cost and usage-log requirements. None has been verified specifically for this arm.

  • Record suitable tapping fluids, supported tap types/materials, service responsibilities and checks of the balance struts, pivots, head alignment, coupler retention, cable and controls.

Created on 14 October 2026 from the supplied photographs, recovered local manual and public Metal-channel records.

Drill-bit sharpener — VEVOR MR-13D

Read the machine guide and maintenance child page for current instructions and dated reports.

  • Record the member's model identification and original photograph: VEVOR MR-13D, visible station 1 and 2 / GRIND POINT ANGLE, local labels 118° / don't adjust. These labels document the intended angle, not a calibration test.

  • Download and attach the exact 135-page MR-13D manual, including English pp. 1–16 and Swedish pp. 120–135. English p. 13 specifies 3–13 mm, 95°–135°, CBN for HSS, 11 collets, EU 220–240 V / 50 Hz / 120 W / 4600 rpm; North American speed is 5800 rpm. Do not use the MR-13B booklet.

  • Photograph the installed rating plate and record supply, power, speed, serial number and revision; confirm applicability of the current manual to the older local housing/storage layout.

  • Identify the installed wheel: maker/part number, CBN or other abrasive, dimensions, grit, speed rating, condition and compatible drill materials. Confirm replacement stock; an unidentified loose stone or generic “diamond” wording is not proof of compatibility.

  • Inventory and label the actual collets and holder: nominal diameter, clamping range, series and condition. Verify usable drill diameter/length limits; the manual's initial ~35 mm projection is not a minimum overall length. Resolve the inconsistent “2–13 (15)” text without expanding the stated 3–13 mm range.

  • Confirm the mapping and operation of the upper lip-relief and point-splitting fixtures, their indexing pins and current geometry. Demonstrate all stages on this machine; keep the shared point angle at 118°.

  • Check alignment, clamping, repeatability and the measured trial-drill point/clearance geometry with a competent maintainer. Record results in the log; establish who may adjust calibration and what drill types/geometries are supported.

  • Demonstrate normal stopping and emergency power isolation. Identify whether any dedicated emergency stop is fitted, and verify switch, cable, enclosure, stability and access to controls.

  • Confirm current instruction/contact, course, booking, fee and usage-log arrangements. No machine-specific requirement was verified in the reviewed sources.

  • Establish suitable fine-dust collection/cleanup and service responsibility. Prefer controlled brush/filtered-vacuum cleanup to blowing dust around; check any proposed coolant or unusual material setup before approval.

Added 14 October 2026 from the supplied photograph, official manual and model-specific vendor information. Public Slack review found no confirmed MR-13D-specific setup or repair record.

Drill press — Arboga E100 (Metal)

Read the machine guide for operation and the maintenance child page for dated reports. This is the grey Metal machine; keep its identification and checks separate from the Arboga in Wood.

  • Retain the existing local E100 identification and service-video link; add the two member-supplied photographs showing the two-lever geared head, manual feed, chuck, round slotted table and bolted base.

  • Download the original four-page Swedish E100 / E100S / EB100 / EB100S instructions and parts scan. The maker explicitly says do not fill the gearbox with oil; the original routine uses only small amounts at designated lubrication points.

  • Record historical E100 model references from Arboga's catalogue: four speeds 200 / 390 / 680 / 1300 rpm and MT3. The installed plate now confirms E100 and those nominal speeds; the actual taper/chuck assembly still needs checking.

  • Confirm installed identification and nominal ratings from the current plate supplied 14 October 2026: E100, No. 46912, 3-phase AC, 380 V Y / 220 V Δ, 1.15 / 2.0 A, 0.6 HK, 2800 rpm motor speed and 200 / 390 / 680 / 1300 rpm spindle settings.

  • Derive the complete selector-chart mapping from the undated refurbishment photograph: 1300 ↗/↗; 680 ↗/↖; 390 ↖/↗; 200 ↖/↖, upper lever first, knob relative to pivot with the plate upright. Record the warning BRYT STRÖMMEN VID VÄXLING. The historical image is used for the printed diagram, not present condition.

  • Record present electrical connection/protection and supply frequency, which are not established by the plate photographs. Keep any measured spindle-speed checks separate from the nominal chart values; do not substitute E100S or modern Arboga instructions.

  • Identify the actual spindle taper, chuck arbor at both ends, chuck model/gripping range and any sleeves. Resolve the local MK2 versus MK3 accounts against the installed assembly; do not select replacement tooling solely from an old Slack recollection.

  • Check and document chuck/bit runout, arbor fit/retention, quill travel and depth-stop operation. A historical report of replaced bent arbors does not establish current runout.

  • Demonstrate table/head-height locks and cranks, load support, cable clearance and travel stops. Check the present arrangement following the resolved January 2024 lock/cable incident.

  • Inspect and document the ceiling-securing arrangement, base fixing and stability; preserve the securing described in January 2026 until a competent maintainer approves any change. The photograph does not prove floor-anchor holding strength.

  • Identify the normal on/off control: the motor-protection circuit breaker box on a bracket at the top of the column, in use since 2017; the original head-mounted buttons were removed before the 2018 rebuild.

  • Document the February–March 2018 refurbishment by Erik Cederberg, Theeo and Bullen on a separate project child page. Include the 15 historical photographs, SKF renewal of readily replaceable bearings, table welding/resurfacing and the rim break during transport.

  • Record Chris's July 2020 replacement of both wooden handles on the head/column and table-support/column locking levers, with the supplied photograph in the maintenance log. Keep this later handle work separate from the 2018 refurbishment.

  • Verify guards, normal stopping, emergency isolation, electrical protection and any no-voltage release. Identify the fitted breaker's exact model, current setting and wiring from the installed device; the GV2ME06 carton in a historical photograph is not proof of the fitted model. A historical pedal proposal does not establish a fitted pedal.

  • Confirm current instruction/contact, course, booking, fee and usage-log arrangements, suitable drilling/cutting-fluid practices and available clamps/fixtures.

  • Record the member-confirmed fitted spring-return kit made by a Swedish machinist, replacing the original counterweight quill return. Add the E100 kit assembly video (Mr3D92, 14 January 2023, 16:06) to the guide and service references; installation date is unknown.

  • Identify the kit designer as Mr3D from his own E100 spring-kit presentation, 15 January 2023, which links the exact supplied Mr3D92 assembly video.

  • Record the installed spring kit's version and parts/drawing reference, and confirm its kit-specific servicing/adjustment procedure. Keep original counterweight instructions separate from the fitted spring mechanism.

  • Identify the intended lubrication cups/holes and current suitable lubricant, quantity and service interval. Do not fill the gear casing with oil or generalise a different model's greasing method.

  • Document suitable sheet-metal tooling and clamping/backing arrangements following the February 2026 local grab report. Keep any proposed setup consistent with the Metal room's material rules.

Added 14 October 2026. Current photographs and historical model references are not a condition inspection or service certificate.

Milling machine — ZX45

Read the machine guide and maintenance child page.

  • Add the 14 October 2026 photograph showing the fitted DRO, task light, table vise and wall-mounted tool storage; preserve the earlier guide photo and dated 2018 purchase notes in the child log.

  • Photograph the maker/model, motor and serial plates and a readable speed chart. Keep the existing manual and specifications, but distinguish their nominal ratings from measured machine performance.

  • Identify the fitted readout as Ditron D80 and document the fitted X 600 mm DMA, Y 250 mm DMS and quill 150 mm DMS scales. The column 600 mm DMA scale is at Makerspace but has not been mounted; a member can make brackets and install it, with column and quill readings combined into one Z axis. Record the April 2022 order, 2023 scale fitting and 2025 display installation in the guide and log. DRO guide, drawings and manuals.

  • Identify the HAAS HMV-6F-08 vise often used with ZX45, from the member's identification accompanying two photographs taken 13 October 2026. Add the photographs side by side, showing the Ditron D80 DRO and vise, and retain the earlier guide photo in the dated log.

  • Record the installed chart's clear endpoints: 12 nominal speeds, 75–3200 rpm. Preserve the previous wiki range 80–3150 rpm in the log; these are printed references, not measured speeds. Record the visible front-control labels and stop-before-speed-change warning.

  • Document the current readout procedure and the exact function/selector mapping for the labelled front controls.

Metal lathe — EMCO Maximat Super 11

Read the machine guide and maintenance child page.

  • Correct the model to Maximat Super 11 from the 14 October 2026 photograph. Its eight nominal speed-chart values match the existing Super 11 manual, printed p. 18 / PDF p. 5. Retain the manual, parts scan and DRO manual.

  • Reflect the documented 1 August 2025 removal of the vertical milling attachment in the current guide; preserve its removal record, older instructions and historical plans in the child log.

  • Record the Ditron D80, 700 mm DMA bed scale and 150 mm DMS cross-slide scale, ordered in April 2022 and installed later during 2022. The 150 mm DMS top-slide scale was never fitted; the lathe often uses a riser block instead of the top slide for increased rigidity. Add the shared DRO guide, drawings and manuals and installation history.

  • Record the installed machine/motor plates and serial number; resolve the existing work-area and motor-power placeholders from matching documentation or the installed plates.

  • Check the current ER25/tool inventory against the dated November 2015 list, and determine whether the old tailstock-centering and replacement-lever plans have since been completed. Add confirmed present information to the guide and dated work to the log.

Metal chop saw — Makita LC1230

Read the machine guide and maintenance child page.

  • Replace the manufacturer product image with the 14 October 2026 photograph of the local saw. Preserve the product reference in the child page and retain the required online course, material-specific blade instructions and attached manual.

  • Photograph the installed model/motor plate and serial number; confirm the exact LC1230 variant and rating rather than deriving them from the current overall photograph.

  • Check and record the current blade inventory, part numbers, material markings and matching magnetic labels. The photograph does not establish which blade is mounted or its condition.

Bench grinder — Metabo DS 7211 D

Read the machine guide.

  • Record the supplied plate: DS 7211 D, 220/380 V three-phase, 50 Hz, 3.1/1.8 A, 800 W input / 600 W output, 3,000 rpm, nominal wheels 200 × 25 × 32 mm, IP44, S2–30 min. The plate does not establish the present wiring configuration.

  • Record the member-confirmed left Norton BDX A36 OVS coarse wheel and right Norton BDX A60 NVS finer wheel. Attach the plate and carton photographs and the original Norton 2019 catalogue, pp. 232/234. The supplied catalogue selections are 200 × 25 × 32 mm / 66253349686 and 200 × 20 × 32 mm / 69936666929, both 45 m/s.

  • Obtain a complete original DS 7211 D operating/maintenance manual. Targeted searches and Metabo's public manual search did not yield one; a modern DS 200 manual is not a verified substitute.

  • Record the fitted wheel labels, actual dimensions and flange/mounting arrangement for future replacement orders, including the 20 mm finer wheel. Check replacement compatibility against the machine and manufacturer instructions.

Added 14 October 2026 from the supplied photographs, wheel confirmation, original Norton catalogue and manufacturer references.

Bench grinder — Galvanotechnik ES 160

Read the machine guide.

  • Identify VEB Galvanotechnik Leipzig ES 160, serial 712757 (member-confirmed), with plate ratings 220 V AC / 50 Hz / 2.0 A / 450 W / 3,000 rpm, maximum wheel 160 mm diameter × 20 mm width, IP33 / TGL 20788.

  • Record the member-confirmed right-hand Norton 3SG 60 K VX wheel for HSS and other hardened-steel tools and the left-hand wire brush. Norton 2019 catalogue p. 228 identifies 150 × 20 × 32 mm, 45 m/s, part 66253050155. These wheel dimensions do not establish spindle or reducing-bush dimensions.

  • Document the fitted Tormek BGM-100, photographed TTS-100 and supported SVD-186/SVS-50/SVD-110 workflow. Add the original English BGM-100 handbook, multilingual TTS-100 instructions and English/Swedish profile chart.

  • Obtain a complete matching ES 160 machine manual. The recovered manufacturer cover is not an operating manual; BGM-100 documents cover the accessory system.

  • Record actual spindle/reducing-bush and flange dimensions, fitted wheel label and wire-brush specification for future replacements. Preserve the machine's 160 × 20 mm maximum and verify replacement fit and speed rating.

Updated 14 October 2026 from the supplied plate and setup photos, member confirmation, 30 July 2020 Slack discussion and manufacturer documents.

Stereo microscope — VEVOR JH-1 series

Read the machine guide and maintenance child page.

  • Create the Metal-room guide from the three member-supplied photographs and confirmed Precision Corner location. Record the VEVOR stand, SN: 241210 5444 G 0002, WF10X/20 eyepiece marking, binocular head, forehead support and covered storage.

  • Record the 1 October 2025 acquisition announcement, 16 October 2025 corner setup and cover request, and later sewing-circle contribution/cover-fit feedback in the child log. Preserve the instruction that the microscope is dedicated to use in the Metal room and that its area must stay clear.

  • Identify the head and stand as one member-confirmed VEVOR kit, linked product 010191167000, and attach the supplied JH-1A/JH-1B/JH-1C manufacturer manual. Document 10× eyepieces, 0.7–4.5× zoom, 7–45× native total, the listed 0.5× / 165 mm lens and 3.5–22.5× calculated total when that reducing lens is fitted.

  • Replace the generic viewing procedure with the manufacturer's zoom/mechanical-focus/diopter sequence, PDF pp. 11–12, and identify the front-arm focus control D, optical-head zoom knob, pivot/height locks, friction controls and forehead-support adjustments, PDF pp. 6 and 9–10. Retain covering and setting-screw checks from p. 12.

  • Record the exact purchased JH-1A/JH-1B/JH-1C variant, fitted auxiliary-lens marking and current working distance. Resolve the manual/listing differences in pupil spacing, mount opening and broad distance ranges from the actual setup before using them for fitting or replacement purchases.

  • Check that the mount holds the installed head securely and the storage cover protects both objective and eyepieces. Record any actual adjustment or repair in the log; the manual's friction controls do not specify a spring-preload method.

  • Document the current illumination, power supply, switches and accessory inventory. The manual lists OK65 / 5 V DC USB for A/B packages and the ball vise/clamps for B; that does not establish which items are now fitted.

  • Confirm ownership/loan status, local instruction/contact and any access or booking arrangements. Procurement involvement does not establish personal ownership.

Vertical metal bandsaw — Mössner Rekord SM/400

Read the machine guide and maintenance and repairs log. Electrical overhaul is in progress; commissioning completion has not been reported.

  • Record the exact plate identification: August Mössner KG, SM/400, machine 13296, built 1964. Add the member's six photographs, distinguishing delivery, the 13 October 2026 overhaul, seller advert and identification/speed/welder details.

  • Recover the matching WMT stock 1108-38982 English datasheet, including the exact supplied advert and plate photographs. Retain supplier figures as advertised data: 400 mm throat/wheels, 610 × 500 mm table, 2780–2980 mm blade, approximately 400 kg.

  • Transcribe the six nominal blade speeds 22 / 34 / 51 / 62 / 98 / 147 m/min. The historical original instructions confirm three gearbox speeds × two pulley steps, gear changes only while stopped, and guide inserts matched to blade width. Add the general LENOX blade guide and distinguish owner reports from verified condition.

  • Obtain and retain the original serial-specific SM/400 operating/parts instructions and electrical diagram. A four-page German SM300/SM400 scan is readable online; no verified unrestricted PDF was found. Current wiring must reflect the overhaul rather than assuming the old diagram still applies.

  • Record final supply and all motor, lamp and IDEAL welder ratings; document completed electrical work, checks and the rebuilt start/stop/isolation/emergency controls. Record commissioning results in the child log.

  • Record the member's one shared Metal-room bandsaw plan and likely 10 mm / 10/14 TPI variable-pitch default blade. Add the video-based after-commissioning operating instruction and timestamped source notes; retain the electrical-overhaul restriction.

  • Measure the actual blade loop and usable tensioning range before replacement orders; resolve the seller's 2780–2980 mm range against the installed machine. Establish allowed width/thickness, fitted blade material/tooth pitch and matching upper/lower guide inserts.

  • Confirm the actual default blade installation and record its maker/product, construction, length × width × thickness, variable pitch, break-in status and matching upper/lower guide inserts. Establish its material/section/radius limits, plastic suitability and speed/lubrication guidance; the intended 10 mm / 10/14 TPI setup is not yet an installed specification.

  • Confirm usable throat, work height, table dimensions/tilt, guards, table insert, wheel tyres and blade tracking. Inventory any optional straight-cutting, weight-feed or band-filing accessories before adding their operating procedures.

  • Identify the IDEAL welder model, serial, voltage and capacity, plus grinding unit. Obtain matching instructions and establish demonstrated weld/anneal/dress/inspection procedures, including compatibility with proposed bimetal stock.

  • Establish suitable lubrication grades/levels and service intervals; confirm cutting-fluid arrangements, supported materials and actual blade-speed/selector checks after the overhaul.

  • Record member instruction/access, booking, fees, logging and contact arrangements before general use; these have not been confirmed for this newly acquired machine.

Added 14 October 2026 from the supplied photographs and acquisition/overhaul account, exact WMT datasheet, original model-family instructions, blade-maker guidance and clearly labelled owner experiences.

Polishing machine — OptiPolish GU25P

Read the machine guide and maintenance and repairs log. Commissioning is in progress; the machine has not yet been released for member use.

  • Record the member-confirmed GU25P, 400 V version, planned VFD speed control and foot-pedal on/off control. Create the main guide and dated commissioning log; move the scrapped former Polermaskin to Previous Machines.

  • Retain the exact manufacturer's article 3101550 product reference and GU-family English manual v1.0.7, 19 May 2023, which covers GU25P. Distinguish nominal factory data from the local installation.

  • Photograph the installed machine/motor plates and serial number, complete machine and final controls. Record VFD make/model, electrical installation/protection and the approved parameter/wiring record.

  • Establish allowed speed/load/duty limits, actual rotation, motor cooling and wheel compatibility. The factory 2,850 rpm and Vario data do not define the local permitted range; the shared manual lists S6 60% duty.

  • Document and test pedal behavior, normal stopping/coast-down, emergency stopping, safe isolation and power-loss/fault/reset behavior. Do not infer momentary/dead-man operation or automatic restart prevention from the word “pedal.”

  • Record fitted wheel/compound inventory and rated speeds, spindle sleeves/flanges/cap nuts, shaft covers, mounting stability and required guarding. Resolve conflicting nut-thread directions on manual pp. 21 and 36 before publishing a wheel-changing procedure. Measure the actual envelope/mounting pattern; the catalogue and p. 16 drawing differ.

  • Establish dust extraction and cleanup for the approved materials/compounds. Check operation throughout the allowed VFD range; factory current-sensing extraction may not trigger at low speed.

  • Demonstrate polishing contact area/orientation, secure workholding for small/irregular parts and the approved pedal sequence. Confirm instruction/contact, access, booking, fee and logging arrangements; the former machine's entries do not apply automatically.

  • Record completed commissioning checks and explicit release in the log, then replace the main guide's commissioning placeholders with the verified procedure.

Added 14 October 2026 from the member's replacement/commissioning account and manufacturer sources.

Bending tool — UB-100

Read the machine guide and maintenance and repairs log. The guide retains the existing access arrangements; the historical faults below need a current condition check.

  • Identify the retained manual as Millart Machinery & Tools V1.0, consistent with the April 2025 local identification. Preserve it and add the original capacity table, illustrated supplementary guide, dated local photos, supplier demonstrations and attributed discussion-board tips.

  • Record the September–October 2025 pin/plate/die reports and January 2026 remount/condition discussion in the child log. Burr removal and remounting are documented; pin/die repairs and a horizontal vise adapter were not confirmed.

  • Inspect the current pressure-plate pin, its seating/fit, pressure plate, forming blocks and fasteners. Establish whether the 2025 faults were repaired; record actual work/results before removing the main guide's condition warning.

  • Confirm the present mounting, stability and stock/lever sweep clearances. The last reviewed report describes a temporary wall mounting near the hydraulic press. Do not assume the proposed horizontal vise adapter was completed.

  • Inventory and photograph all forming plates, clamp/seat variants, radius labels, bend-stop parts and length gauge. Check fit before ordering substitutes; the October 2025 discussion identified different pin and pressure-plate geometry on a suggested replacement version.

  • Check the angle scale, stop retention, repeatability and bend alignment with suitable sample work after the tool is confirmed sound. Record material, section, tooling, radius and released angle; the manual's capacity table is not a current load-test result.

  • Establish suitable material/radius combinations and any hot-working method. The Millart manual does not state steel strength/grade or hot-working temperature; other UB-100 suppliers' higher figures do not define local limits.

  • Record a local demonstration/contact and an appropriate cleaning/lubrication routine for this version. Photograph any readable machine plate and record the exact supplier/version if available.

Added 15 October 2026 from the retained Millart manual, official supplementary documentation, public local service discussions and clearly attributed owner experiences.
