Maintenance and repairs log — Bosch GCM 12 GDL

Repair and maintenance history for the Bosch GCM 12 GDL. Routine checks, cleaning and operating instructions are on the machine page.

Dated reports describe what was known at the time. A reported repair does not establish the present condition of every part or close a later fault. Outstanding checks are collected in Woodshop open questions.

Machine identification: the Bosch was bought in May 2024. Earlier mitre-saw breakdowns, slide-out cupboard advice and capacities describe the previous saw and are not operating instructions for this machine. Photo identification confirms the Bosch axial-glide saw in the entries below.

14 October 2026 — Current mitre station and auxiliary fittings

Three current photographs show the Bosch GCM 12 GDL at its dedicated bench, with support surfaces on both sides, split wooden auxiliary fence faces, wooden throat insert, clamp and extraction hose. They are on the machine page.

The current photos confirm that the wooden auxiliary fittings are still present. They do not record a factory-fence replacement, blade identification, alignment measurement or clearance test for every angle. Those checks remain open.

The former Bosch GCM8 SJL has been sold and is no longer at the makerspace. Its old capacities, blade sizes, station and slide-out-cupboard instructions do not describe the GCM 12 GDL.

30 December 2025 — Bevel alignment adjusted

The bevel was reported off square and adjusted “as straight as” the member could make it. Status: adjustment reported; no measured tolerance or test-cut result recorded. The photograph shows the Bosch with a split wooden auxiliary fence and wooden throat insert still fitted at that date. It does not establish safe clearances for every angle or today's configuration. Report/photo.

22 November 2025 — Blade and swivel-plate service

The community-day work was reported on 25 November: the swivel plate was lubricated and the blade replaced with a newly sharpened one. Status: work reported complete at that date. Blade maker, tooth count, dimensions and lubricant were not recorded; this is not confirmation of the currently fitted blade. Maintenance report.

12–13 July 2025 — Fixed fence fractured; temporary wooden fence fitted

The bottom-left fixed aluminium fence was found broken. A maintainer clarified that the fracture was at a threaded hole, not a blade cut. A replacement factory part was to be ordered; another member made a temporary wooden fence on 13 July. Status: temporary fence construction confirmed; factory-part delivery and installation not confirmed in the full thread or later search. A December photo still shows a wooden auxiliary fence, but does not prove whether the underlying metal part was replaced. Initial report/photos, fracture clarification, temporary fence completed.

Historical repair photographs. The small-stock comment in Slack does not approve every size, clamping arrangement or bevel angle.

Still to verify: inspect the present fixed/adjustable fences, part identity, mounting and any auxiliary insert. Confirm clearance and alignment using the Bosch manual; log the factory-part replacement and a suitable test if completed.

31 January–2 February 2025 — Dust adapter and zero-clearance insert discussed

A discussion proposed a printed dust-collection adapter and replacement insert. Replies warned that a straight-cut-only insert can be cut by bevelled cuts. Status: proposals only; no manufacture or installation confirmed by this thread. Do not treat a suggested printed chute as the installed local setup. Discussion.

13 December 2024 — Extraction gate left open

The mitre-saw gate had been left open and the extractor had continued running until it was hot. This was a cleanup/shutdown reminder, not a recorded motor repair. Close the station's gate after use and follow the shared system's instructions without disrupting other users. Report.

14 September 2024 — Bench surface oiled

A 15 September room update reported that the oak workbench had been oiled the previous day. Status: surface-care report; no saw alignment or repair implied. Update.

May 2024 — Purchase and new mitre station

The 28 April planning thread proposed a Bosch GCM 12 GDL and a new station. The purchase was announced on 24 May and identified as the Bosch on 25 May. A 26 May room report said construction of the new mitre station had started the previous day. The attached room photographs show the new Bosch during that work. Status: acquisition and station construction confirmed; an exact machine serial/article number is still needed for parts records. Model proposal, purchase/model confirmation, station work/photos.
