Bambu Lab H2S

Course required. You need Module 2 (Module 2 — Materials, multi-material printing and the rest of the fleet), which comes after Module 1. The H2S is only for jobs that need its size.

What it is

An enclosed filament printer with one nozzle and a much bigger build area than an X2D. That is the only reason the room has it. With one nozzle, every switch between colours or to support material is a full filament change with purging, so those jobs are slower and waste more plastic than on an X2D.

✅ Hard rule: fair use. Only use an H2S when your job needs the size: one object that is physically large, or a batch of parts that will not reasonably fit on an X2D.

There are only two, so an ordinary print on an H2S uses up half of the room's large-print capacity.

What you may print

Model material

Support material

PLA (silk PLA included), PETG, and filled versions of them

Breakaway support matched to the model material, or PLA and PETG supporting each other (2.4 Support material, and the X2D's second nozzle)

  • Only materials on the allow-list. ABS and ASA are not on the H2S list. The full list is on Allowed materials.

  • PETG on Textured PEI always gets a thin layer of Bambu Liquid Glue.

The 0.4 mm and 0.8 mm nozzles

For large, chunky parts you may swap the hotend for a 0.8 mm high-flow one, which can cut the print time a lot. It gives thicker layer lines and loses fine detail, so stay on 0.4 mm for small text and smooth surfaces.

✅ Hard rule. The only nozzle change members may make is swapping the hotend on an H2S between the standard 0.4 mm and the 0.8 mm high-flow. Only do it if you know how. If you have never done it, ask in Slack and do your first one with someone who has.

  • The steps are in the course (2.8 Nozzles), and the video Changing the HotEnd on the Bambu Lab H2S shows the whole change. The spare hotends are in the drawer directly under the left H2S.

  • Afterwards: set the new nozzle on the printer's screen, set the nozzle size indicator to match, and sync Bambu Studio.

  • When your print is finished, swap back to 0.4 mm and set everything back.

Using it: the short version

The whole job is in the course (1.7 Taking over a printer to 1.12 Finishing up, and 2.9 The H2S: use it only when you need it).

  1. Check that your job needs the size, then find a free H2S: not printing, no nametag on it, and no red Out of order tag.

  2. Put your nametag on the lid handle as soon as you start loading filament.

  3. Wash a Textured PEI plate with warm water and dish soap, add glue for PETG, and push it back against the stops.

  4. Load your spool and latch the AMS lid (Bambu Lab AMS 2 Pro).

  5. Slice for this printer, this plate and this filament slot, after a Sync. Check that the slicer shows the nozzle that is fitted. Auto Bed Leveling stays on Auto.

  6. Start the print and watch the whole first layer.

  7. Clean up: plate out, printer vacuumed, spool out, nametag off, plate back in the rack.

The most important rules

  • Pass Module 2 first, and label your spools.

  • Use an H2S only when your job needs its size.

  • One printer at a time. Nametag on when you start loading, off when your print is out. The tag must show your member number and name; one with less counts as no nametag.

  • Materials: only PLA (silk PLA included) and PETG, plain or filled, on moulded plastic spools.

  • Support: matched breakaway support, or PLA and PETG supporting each other. 2.4 Support material, and the X2D's second nozzle says which filaments.

  • Filament goes through the AMS, with the tubes as they are. No rerouting, no external spool holders or splitters, no pushing it by hand.

  • Washing plates: warm water and dish soap. Never hand soap or acetone.

  • Plastic scrapers only.

  • Glue: only Bambu Liquid Glue, on Textured PEI. PETG always gets it.

  • Nozzle changes: only between 0.4 mm and 0.8 mm high-flow, and only if you know how.

  • After a nozzle change: set it on the screen and on the indicator, and sync Bambu Studio.

  • Swap back to 0.4 mm when your print is finished.

  • Auto Bed Leveling stays on Auto, never Off.

  • Never change the installed Bambu Studio profiles.

  • Watch the whole first layer. Then you may leave.

  • Hot nozzle, hot bed, fast print head. They look fine and are not. Never reach into a printer whose job isn't finished.

  • To stop a print now, use the stop button on the touchscreen.

  • Leave the printer empty for the next person, with your plate back in the rack.

  • Fire or electrical fault: deal with the danger first. Then, if it's safe, switch off, unplug, and tell us in Slack.

Good to know

  • You do not press Load. After a cancelled job, or one stopped by an error, run Unload before you take the spool out.

  • Keep the door and lid closed while it prints, and never remove or block a filter.

  • Support costs more here. Using support material only for the layer that touches your model saves a lot of time and plastic (2.4 Support material, and the X2D's second nozzle).

When something goes wrong

  • Fire, smoke or an electrical fault: deal with the danger first. Warn the people around you, get out and call 112, and use the nearest fire extinguisher only if you can do it safely. Then, if it is safe, switch the printer off, unplug it, and tell us in Slack.

  • Anything else: post in the Slack channel #3D-Skrivare. If it is urgent, tag @roomdev-3d.

  • A fault you can't fix: report it, and put a red Out of order! Reported on Slack tag from the pegboard on the printer. Never use a printer with a red tag.
