Allowed materials
The official list. This page is the room's record of which materials each printer group may print. If a material is not on this page, it is not allowed yet. The rules behind it are taught in 1.6 Filament: what you may use, and where it lives and 2.1 What you may print: the allow-list.
✅ Hard rule. Only print materials this page allows on the printer group you are using. Not being listed never means a material is allowed.
The list is about kinds of material, not brands: unless a row names a brand, any brand of that material is fine. If you are unsure whether your filament counts, ask in #3D-Skrivare.
What each module lets you print
With Module 1
Printers: the four upper-row X2Ds only.
Materials: ordinary PLA, in any colour or finish (basic, matte, glitter and so on), and Bambu PLA Silk+. No other silk PLA, no filled PLA, and no glow-in-the-dark filament.
One spool at a time. No support material and no multi-colour printing.
With Module 2
Printers: all of them. Each printer group has its own list, in the tables below.
Support material and several colours, on every printer you may use, the upper row included.
Model materials (Module 2)
With Module 1 only, see "With Module 1" above.
✅ allowed · ❌ not allowed on that printer group
Material | Upper-row X2D | Lower-row X2D | H2S |
|---|---|---|---|
Ordinary PLA: any PLA in any colour or finish (basic, matte, glitter and so on), except silk, filled or glow-in-the-dark | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Bambu PLA Silk+ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Other silk PLA, including Bambu's other silk filaments | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
PETG | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
ABS | ❌ | ✅ | ❌ |
ASA | ❌ | ✅ | ❌ |
Filled filaments (carbon fibre, glass fibre, wood, stone, metal and the like), when the base material is allowed on that printer group | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
Silk PLA is mixed with other polymers, and some blends can ruin a SuperTack plate, so it is not printed on the upper row. The one exception is Bambu PLA Silk+, which is made to work on SuperTack.
On the upper row, the only support material is Bambu Support for PLA. Other brands' support filaments aren't tested on SuperTack plates and might stick too hard to them, which risks damaging the plate.
Filled filaments have fibres or particles mixed in, which makes them abrasive. They are allowed only where their base material is: PETG-CF on an H2S is fine, ABS-CF is not. In the AMS HT, check Bambu's compatibility guide first. See 2.2 The materials. If you sand carbon-fibre or glass-fibre parts at the makerspace, always sand them wet, in a shallow tray of water, and preferably wear nitrile gloves.
Support material (Module 2)
All support here is breakaway support matched to the model material, or PLA and PETG supporting each other.
Support material | Upper-row X2D | Lower-row X2D | H2S |
|---|---|---|---|
Bambu Support for PLA | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Bambu Support for PLA/PETG | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
Bambu Support for ABS | ❌ | ✅ | ❌ |
Other brands' breakaway support, matched to the model material | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
PLA and PETG supporting each other (only the filaments listed in 2.4 Support material, and the X2D's second nozzle) | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
On an X2D, a listed material may go in either AMS, except anything Bambu's X2D Filament Compatibility Guide rates highly not recommended or unavailable for the right nozzle. That never goes in the AMS HT (Bambu Lab AMS HT).
Plates and glue
Upper-row X2Ds: Cool Plate SuperTack. Never any glue.
Lower-row X2Ds: Textured PEI. Bambu Liquid Glue only: always for PETG, and for ABS, ASA or small footprints when needed.
H2S: Textured PEI. Bambu Liquid Glue only: always for PETG.
The makerspace pays for the glue.
Never allowed, on any printer
PVC and POM (acetal)
Water-soluble filaments of every kind, such as PVA and BVOH
Flexible filaments of every kind, such as soft TPU, TPE and PEBA
Glow-in-the-dark filament of any kind, because it is extremely abrasive
Any filament you cannot identify
Getting a material added
Anything that is neither on this page nor on the never-allowed list can be requested.
Ask the room developers in the Slack channel
#3D-Skrivare.They test the material.
They add it to this page.
Only then may you print it.
