Bambu Lab X2D
Course required. The four upper-row X2Ds need Module 1 (Module 1 — The room and your first print). The four lower-row X2Ds need Module 2 (Module 2 — Materials, multi-material printing and the rest of the fleet), which you take after Module 1.

An X2D in the rack, with its four-spool AMS 2 Pro on top and its one-spool AMS HT to the right
What it is
An enclosed filament printer with two nozzles side by side. Only one prints at a time: the printer lowers the one it needs and parks the other slightly higher.
Left nozzle: the main one, with its extruder right above it ("direct drive"). Your model prints from here. The AMS 2 Pro feeds it.
Right nozzle: fed through a long tube from an extruder at the back of the printer ("Bowden"), so it is a little slower and less precise. Its main job here is support material, from the AMS HT.
Left: the X2D print head with its cover off, the left hotend lowered and the right one parked higher. Right: the auxiliary extruder at the back of the printer, pushing filament into the tube to the right nozzle
The two rows
Upper row (4) | Lower row (4) | |
|---|---|---|
Course | Module 1 | Module 2 |
Build plate | Cool Plate SuperTack | Textured PEI |
Model material | Ordinary PLA, plus Bambu PLA Silk+ | PLA (silk PLA included), PETG, ABS, ASA, and filled versions of them |
Support material | Bambu Support for PLA only | Breakaway support matched to the model material, or PLA and PETG supporting each other (2.4 Support material, and the X2D's second nozzle) |
Eight Bambu Lab X2D printers in two rows of four, with AMS 2 Pro units above the upper row and below the lower row, and an AMS HT beside each printer
All eight are the same machine. The rows differ in plate, materials and course.
Only materials on the allow-list. Not on the list means not allowed yet. The full list, and what is never allowed on any printer, is on Allowed materials.
ABS and ASA give off fumes. Keep the door and lid closed while they print.
PETG on Textured PEI always gets a thin layer of Bambu Liquid Glue.
AMS HT: nothing that Bambu's X2D Filament Compatibility Guide rates highly not recommended or unavailable for the right nozzle (Bambu Lab AMS HT).
Using it: the short version
The whole job is in the course (1.7 Taking over a printer to 1.12 Finishing up).
Find a free printer: not printing, no nametag on it, and no red Out of order tag. A finished print left in it goes to the build-plate rack on its plate, with the owner's nametag.
Put your nametag on the lid handle as soon as you start loading filament.
Wash a plate with warm water and dish soap, and push it back against the stops. Textured PEI with PETG: add glue.
Load your spool and latch the AMS lid (Bambu Lab AMS 2 Pro).
Slice for this printer, this plate and this filament slot, after a Sync. Auto Bed Leveling stays on Auto.
Start the print and watch the whole first layer.
Clean up: plate out, printer vacuumed, spool out, nametag off, plate back in the rack.
The most important rules
Pass the course for that row first, and label your spools.
One printer at a time. Nametag on when you start loading, off when your print is out. The tag must show your member number and name; one with less counts as no nametag.
Only allow-listed materials, on moulded plastic spools.
Upper row: no silk PLA except Bambu PLA Silk+, and no filled filament.
Never glow-in-the-dark filament, on any printer.
Filament goes through the AMS, with the tubes as they are. No rerouting, no external spool holders or splitters, no pushing it by hand.
AMS HT: nothing that Bambu's guide rates highly not recommended or unavailable for the right nozzle.
Washing plates: warm water and dish soap. Never hand soap or acetone.
Plastic scrapers only.
SuperTack: never glue or IPA.
Glue: only Bambu Liquid Glue, only on Textured PEI.
Auto Bed Leveling stays on Auto, never Off.
Never change the installed Bambu Studio profiles.
Watch the whole first layer. Then you may leave.
Hot nozzle, hot bed, fast print head. They look fine and are not. Never reach into a printer whose job isn't finished.
To stop a print now, use the stop button on the touchscreen.
Leave the printer empty for the next person, with your plate back in the rack.
Never change the nozzles on an X2D.
Fire or electrical fault: deal with the danger first. Then, if it's safe, switch off, unplug, and tell us in Slack.
The full lists: Module 1 — Rules summary and Module 2 — Rules summary.
Good to know
Noises are normal. When the print head goes to the back and makes mechanical noises, it is switching nozzle, cutting filament or wiping the nozzle.
You do not press Load. After a cancelled job, or one stopped by an error, run Unload before you take the spool out.
Keep the door and lid closed while it prints, and never remove or block a filter.
When something goes wrong
Fire, smoke or an electrical fault: deal with the danger first. Warn the people around you, get out and call 112, and use the nearest fire extinguisher only if you can do it safely. Then, if it is safe, switch the printer off, unplug it, and tell us in Slack.
Anything else: post in the Slack channel
#3D-Skrivare. If it is urgent, tag@roomdev-3d.A fault you can't fix: report it, and put a red Out of order! Reported on Slack tag from the pegboard on the printer. Never use a printer with a red tag.
