Materials
Material | |
|---|---|
New solid timber (no nails, screws, grit) | ✅ |
Plywood, MDF, chipboard | ✅ |
Laminated MDF / chipboard | ✅ — wears the blade; fine-tooth blade recommended |
Reclaimed timber, incl. pallet wood | ❌ |
Laminate flooring | ❌ — abrasive, ruins the blade |
Pressure-treated wood | ❌ |
Metal, stone, stone-like materials | ❌ |
Plastics and anything else | Ask first |
Setup and controls
Blades: one rip blade, combination blades and crosscut blades. Combination blade is the default — put it back after using another (with power isolated). Use combination/crosscut across the grain; the rip blade is for along the grain only. No dado stacks.
Height and tilt: detachable handle with separate positions for height and tilt. Adjust only when stopped. Tilt lock screw is mainly needed around 22°.
Rip fence: keep it fitted. It slides fore/aft and rotates 90° for thin stock. Hand-tighten only — don't touch the two anti-overtightening nuts on the handle. If it won't lock, report it.
Crosscut fence: don't slide it sideways, take it apart or remove its stop screw. The wooden tip is sacrificial (zero-clearance).
Sliding carriage: pull the lock pin to unlock; press the red button and return the carriage to relock.
Extraction: pull out the gate and check suction before cutting.
Stop: the large red STOP flap over the original switch. Find it before you start.
Won't start? Check the rear three-position blade-access selector is in the middle position and all covers are closed.

Safety
Never cut freehand — always use the rip fence or the sliding table and crosscut fence.
Never remove the riving knife or guard, or bypass an interlock.
Keep hands at least 150 mm from the blade. Use push sticks.
Stand to one side of the blade line — offcuts can be thrown back.
Never trap a crosscut against the rip fence (see step 5).
Never pull an unfinished cut back through a moving blade. Finish the cut, or hold still and stop the saw.
Eye and hearing protection. No gloves, jewellery or loose clothing.
Never leave the saw running unattended.
How to use
Plan the cut. Inspect the stock, choose the blade by grain direction, arrange support for the whole cut.
Check while stopped: blade, riving knife, guard, fences locked, insert, extraction hose.
Set the height: blade about 20 mm above the stock, guard just above the work. Check clearance through the full carriage travel.
Choose the guide that gives the most stable support: usually the rip fence for long boards, the sliding table for short crosscuts.
Crosscuts against a length stop: pull the rip fence back so the stock leaves it before reaching the blade.
Start extraction and check suction, then start the saw.
Cut. Stand to the side, keep the stock flat against the guide, use push sticks. On rip cuts, push towards the fence only before the blade. Walk with the sliding carriage.
Finish. Feed rip cuts fully past the blade. After a crosscut, move the workpiece a few mm away from the blade before returning the carriage.
Stop and wait for the blade to stop before removing parts. Restore the combination blade if you changed it. Close extraction and clean up.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Action |
|---|---|
Stock binds or twists | Stop without pulling back. Check support, fence and stock. |
Burning, ragged cut, heavy feed | Blade dull, wrong blade, resin, or feed too slow. Don't push harder. |
Weak extraction | Stop. Check gate and hose; isolate power before clearing inside. |
Loose fence, stiff height, clicking when tilting | Stop and report. Don't force or recalibrate. |
Won't start | Check STOP flap, covers and that the rear selector is in the middle position. Don't bypass anything. |
Brake doesn't stop the blade normally | Take out of use and report. |
Maintenance
Before each use: check guards, riving knife, cable and extraction. Clean surfaces and floor after use.
Label dull blades "Dull" for sharpening.
Blade cleaning: warm water, dish soap, sponge, then dry.
Blade changes, brake work, electrical work and fence alignment are maintainer tasks. Manufacturer service schedule: 2022 manual pp. 65–66.
Accessories
Hold-downs: on the pillar right of the saw and in the saw-accessories drawer facing the lathe.
Jigs made for the old table saw don't necessarily fit the Hammer — check fit and clearance first.
Sliding-table T-slot: 11 mm top, 22 mm bottom, 13 mm deep, 5 mm lip; 105 mm from the blade. Measure before making accessories.
