Wood

Wood room course required before using the room. Some machines need their own course — see the list below.

The Woodshop (Trärummet) — cutting, planing, turning, sanding and bench work. Hand tools, clamps and turning tools hang on the wall racks.

Rules

  1. Pass the required courses before using the room or a machine.

  2. Keep the door closed — keeps dust out of the rest of the space.

  3. Eye protection and hearing protection. Dust mask when needed.

  4. No gloves near moving machines. Tie back hair and beards, no loose sleeves, jewellery or cords. Closed shoes. No headphones.

  5. Guards stay on. Know where the stop is before starting.

  6. Hands away from blades and cutters. Use fences, clamps and push sticks.

  7. Stay with a running machine. Don't distract or bump anyone who is cutting or turning.

  8. Stop completely before changing setup, clearing offcuts or cleaning. Power off for blade changes and maintenance.

  9. Keep walkways, exits and fire equipment clear.

  10. Clean up machine, bench and floor. Return every tool. Tools never leave the room.

Materials

  • No pressure-treated wood.

  • No metal, stone, bricks or stone-like materials.

  • Check timber for nails, screws, grit and loose knots. No reclaimed/pallet wood on the table saw or planer.

  • Plastics: only where the machine page allows it, and ask about extraction first — the Felder is for wood dust only.

Dust extraction

  1. Connect the hose, open your machine's gate fully, close the others. Check suction before cutting.

  2. Stop if suction fails. Power off before clearing a blockage.

  3. Close your gate when done.

  4. Last to leave: close all gates and check the blower has stopped. Never leave it running overnight.

  5. Check the bag before and during work — the fill sensor isn't reliable and the collector won't stop by itself when full.

  6. Wet green-wood shavings must never go in the extractor.

  7. Ceiling air filter: remote by the door — start it with a timer.

Which machine?

Task

Machine

Cut a board to length, mitres

Mitre saw

Straight rip cut

Table saw, or the Basato bandsaw

Curves

EJCA bandsaw; scroll saw for fine work

Resaw a board thinner

Basato bandsaw

Make timber flat and square

Planer: joint a face, joint an edge, then thickness

Large sheets

Plunge saw on the rail (when repaired)

Groove or edge profile

Router table or handheld router

Round parts

Lathe

Quick irregular cut-outs

Jigsaws — support the work and don't force the blade sideways

Long or awkward stock needs support at both ends. Move the wheeled benches only when safe, and keep walkways clear.

Benches and storage

  • Workbenches are on wheels.

  • Glue drying: corner area, max 48 h, with a temporary-storage sticker. The table folds down for larger items.

  • Temporary material storage: along the walls, max 2 months.

  • Free material: shelves under the mitre saw bench, marked "Free material for everyone".

  • No gluing or bench work on machine tables — use the workbenches.

  • Router table accessories: fence below the router table; coping sled on the wall by the torque wrenches; router bits in the drawers under the belt sander; ER20 collets in the router table drawer.

  • Sweep or vacuum — no compressed air. Floor-sweep inlet near the lathe.

  • Label projects and follow the member storage rules.

When something goes wrong

  • Machine fault: stop, wait for standstill, power off. Put a "do not use" note on it and report in #trärummet-woodroom.

  • Fire, smoke or electrical fault: warn others, get out, call 112. Use an extinguisher only if safe.
