Materials
Yes: clean, dry wood with no nails, screws or grit.
No: metal, wet/green wood, glued work cured less than 24 h (or the glue's full curing time).
Plastics and foam: ask first.
Round stock only in an anti-roll jig. Small pieces need a jig or push stick.
Safety
Eye and hearing protection. No gloves; secure hair, clothing and jewellery.
Doors closed, guards fitted, extraction on.
Upper guide max 10 mm above the work (3–6 mm is better).
Keep hands at least 100 mm from the blade, never in line with the cut.
No forced curves or sideways pressure. A blade's width limits how tight it can turn.
Stop immediately on clicking (may be a cracked blade), unusual noise or vibration.
Never slow the blade with wood or your hand. Never leave it running unattended.
How to use
Plan the cut, including relief cuts and a clear exit.
Power off: check blade, guards, guide mountings and table insert (fitted, sound, flush). Doors closed. Find OFF and the emergency stop.
Set the upper guide just above the work and lock it.
Start extraction, then the saw. Wait for full speed.
Feed steadily, only as fast as the blade cuts. Turn curves gradually; use relief cuts so you don't have to back out.
If the blade binds: hold the work still, stop the saw, wait for standstill, then remove the work.
Stop, wait for standstill and isolate before clearing scraps. Clean up and lower the upper guide.
Angled cuts: get the table-tilt procedure demonstrated first. Adjust only with power isolated, and check the angle with a square.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Action |
|---|---|
Clicking, crack or broken blade | Stop, isolate, report. Keep the doors closed until everything has stopped. |
Blade wanders, twists or stalls | Curve may be too tight, or the blade dull or badly tensioned. Ask for help. |
Blade binds | Hold the work, stop and wait. Never pull it back through a moving blade. |
Vibration or wheel noise | Stop and report. |
Extraction not working | Stop cutting and fix/report. |
Won't start or stop correctly | Don't continue. Report. |
Maintenance
Users: check before use, clean after (power isolated).
Maintainers: daily check/clean, monthly guide and tyre inspection, yearly shaft lubrication. Keep both sides of the wheels free of deposits. Don't over-tension.
Blade changes, tension and guide setup are for people familiar with this machine.
Has newer electrical controls, a 100 mm extraction port, new tyres and new guides compared to the original manual.
Blades: EJCA lists 3090 mm × 6/10/12/16 mm for the BA45. Members order from bandsågblad.se — check length, width and guide compatibility first.
